UPDATE 5: (20/10/07) Since so many of you seem to have tiny old monitors and complain about the screen not being shown fully, I've changed the size that this displays at quite considerably. Chapter 2 will also be displayed at this size.
Speaking of which, Chapter 2 should be out in less than a week! : D

UPDATE 4: More bug fixes. Latest version should be marked "v1.1.0801", but Newgrounds seems to take its time about updating these uploaded files...

UPDATE 3: LATEST VERSION IS HERE: http://www.fighunter.com/
games/MARDEK/play2.php
I've fixed a whole bunch of things that people have reported (mentioned below in the other 'UPDATE' sections), but the file's not been updated on Newgrounds yet (which is no fault of mine!). So try that version! The Dragon's much easier! Many bugs are fixed! And stuff!

UPDATE 2: I've made The Dragon easier again. Much easier. If you lose to it now, then there's no hope for you. T_T
But please try to get past it; the game actually BEGINS once you've beaten it!
And I apologise again to those of you who actually put even a smidgen of effort into playing this game that I put tons of effort into making, but I really just can't stand it how people are failing to get past even the intentionally generic-as-can-be intro and then thinking that's the entire game...
Also, I added another few changes:
- You can walk around with the WASD keys as well as the arrow keys.
- When selecting a target in battle, its HP bar is highlighted so you know which one you're aiming for!
-I also fixed the death screen thing; the buttons actually work now.
- You can't walk away from talking to The Dragon now!!
- I fixed the duplicating items in shops, too.
(Apparently it takes a while for the new file to replace the old one on files with >5000 views, though, so this probably won't take effect immediately)

UPDATE: Guh. It's really frustrating how lazy and inept people apparently are, dying against The Dragon (which isn't even hard!) or before they get to it and then just quitting, and then judging the game based on the beginning (even though that is just the beginning; the ACTUAL game starts when you beat The Dragon, and it's totally different and better!), so - and I apologise to you people who actually might've liked the challenge of that battle and DIDN'T struggle with it - I've made the The Dragon battle somewhat easier. I've also made a few smaller fixes, too, as recommended by reviews and stuff.
Keep up the feedback! It's greatly appreciated!

It's an RPG! Need I say any more? Just play it and tell me what you think!

This is chapter 1 in a series of 8 chapters. The other chapters will follow directly on from this one, and will be released as they're finished.

Basically everything in this game - graphics, coding, dialogue, plot, music - were all made by me, however sound effects were not (they were taken from some free sound effects websites).

And it's sponsored by CrazyMonkeyGames.com!

KNOWN BUGS:
- Sometimes, when Mardek's in bed and Deugan comes to talk to him, apparently something (that I'm unable to reproduce, so I don't know what it is) happens and you get stuck somehow. You can 'fix' this by restarting the game and reloading the last autosave (if there is one); that should reload the scene and chances are the bug won't happen again.
- Also sometimes, when you open a treasure chest, you just get an error message saying that your inventory is full. I can't reliably reproduce this and I think it's got nothing to do with my code because it only happens sometimes, randomly, and rarely. You can get around this by restarting the game and reloading the last autosave or save or whatever.
- Corrupted or missing saved data can occur if you don't let Flash store as much information as it needs to. A dialogue box might come up (it'll be grey and won't fit the style of the game's menus) asking to allow Flash to store data; ALLOW IT! Otherwise some data is missing when you load your games, understandably.

"Reminds me of Shining Force"

date: June 28, 2009

This game reminds me of Shining Force, an old game for the Sega. Perhaps the creator took some inspiration from games like this?

Anyway, a fantastic game. I played and loved part two as well. Keep up the good work!

I seldom saw a flash rpg which's as good as this one! A story, that enjoys for hours, with much humour and difficult bosses! All flash games should be like this.
