Turanium

I have been working on this game for a good amount of hours now and finally completed it very early on Tuesday (8/15/2006) morning. I was planning on releasing it then, but due to 'Clock Day', I decided to hold off.

Anyways, Turanium is an arcade-style shooter. You control your spaceship with your mouse and destroy waves of enemies. Hold down 'left-click' to rapid-fire. Various powerups will drop from enemies, ranging from health refills, extra lives, upgraded weapons, and bonus points.

At the end of each level, you will be given a [possibly] large bonus score based on your level score, your level completion time, the level you are at, and the difficulty you are playing at.

There are 15 levels in total. If I get some good votes/reviews/feedback I will probably make a sequel with better graphics, more enemies, more weapons, and more levels with more diversity.

*Note: While the game starts off relatively easy, it does get hard in the end. I was able to beat the game on normal, but it took me a good amount of tries. If you are having trouble beating the game, and you really want to, try changing the settings to easy. If you are really skilled, try and beat it at hard or impossible. If you do... I want to hear about it!

**Note: I have tested this on three computers ranging from a 1.5 GHz laptop to a 1.8 GHz desktop. All of them were able to run it at the desired framerate. If there is a LOT of stuff happening on the screen, the game might slow down for a few seconds but will always speed back up when the 'smoke clears'. If you are having trouble getting the game to run smoothly, you can turn down visual quality and particle effects in the settings.

This was a pretty good game. It didn't have that many parts that were that unique. On the same note, it didn't really have anything wrong with it. Maybe there could have been more detail with the enemies. It's pretty fun to just destroy these things over and over. 15 levels sounds like a good enough number.

It's nice to have all these powerups. A pity you don't keep them when you go to the next level. For the most part, this was good. While not great, the sounds were fairly good and fit the style. There didn't seem to be any problem with the synching.

I like it!

The controls work well and the graphics are very clear. I really like the particle effects from the explosions and the way they are reflected from the sides of the screen. I'll have to try that in one of my games!

Good job!!

Looks like a swell game and all

but it doesn't work on Macs. I'm unable to shoot. Oh well.

Not bad, good old classics.

Its got a old school arcade style to it. I like that. I killed about 20 minutes. good job.

Well...

Total Neon clone. Have you no shame?

derekbeau responds:

No shame... due to the fact that the only similarities are

1) the movement system: easing is a very standard principle
2) some of the sound effects: I didn't even notice this because I searched through flashkit.com's sound effects and found ones that I liked for the game. It was then brought to my attention that some of them are also used in Neon. They just got to them before I did.

Anyways, I don't think it is a total clone. That is similar to saying that Sonic and Mario are clones... or PGR and Gran Turismo are clones. Those kinds of statements just don't matter much.
