I found a strange issue I just had even though for some reason I didn't encounter this issue until I looked up a walkthrough
During the part where you have to defuse the bear's dynamite it keeps thinking I'm shooting the bear so right when the dialogue is over the bear explodes and I die

oh my god I've been playing this game since I was 13 and I can never beat it
Farthest I've gone is the stairs.
EDIT: Now the farthest is in the kitchen with bear where you shoot everything.
