Your shield absorbs enemy life to raise your own health. The more you charge your shield, the bigger the impact!
Also, your Mega Cannon is enhanced when you have a fully charged shield!

Pulsing, Pounding, 8-Bit-ish Arcade Action!
It's a vertical-scrolling shmup looking like something from a superpowered Atari 800, full of disco beats and thumping techno and lovely lovely colors and flashy beams of DOOM!
Graphics: Shiny and colorful and wonderfully pixelated. Cool weapons and explosion effects.
Style: Mommy, where's my VCS? I wanna play Megamania!!
Sound: The music sets the mood, and the mood was the 80s... with homages to the Disco Era as well! Loved it. Sound FX are all spot-on, too.
Violence: Super smashing blamtastic! Pixelated demolition for everyone! And apologies to Sensible Software!
Interactivity: Tight controls. Gotta love those!
Humor: Cheeseball. Right up my alley. How about yours?
Overall: Blastopod is a wonderful trippy trip back into the heyday of 8-bit console gaming -- though far more shiny than anything I ever saw on a 2600. It's a nice little shmup to enjoy for half an hour or so, every once in a while... not too easy, not too hard, just right for a quick yet satisfying BSU session! (BSU? Blowing [Stuff] Up...) Thanks, Tom! This kicks so much tuchas you'll have to import more for it to kick!
How can anyone give this less than 10/10
reactive fast awesome and highly advanced. This game almost just got me fired. I didn't realize how long I was playing it for. Quite a challenge too. anyone who gives this a low score should have their brain checked out lice.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. the gameplay was fastpaced yet still enjoyable, and the graphics really took me back a few years. One thing about the gameplay that stood out was that either by accident or design, it was adaptive. Whenever you die, you restart with the same powerups you had, making the second go much easier! Did you mean to do that? Anyway, that was pretty cool game, famous flash person or not.
to hard to beat i always died with thewarnig thingie ?? more upgrades or a litle smoother gameplay could fix it up ( absorb energy wtf??)
