"This mostly seems like a graphics showcase"

date: June 4, 2004

At least that's not a bad thing. The graphics were great, but animations were kind of lacking; details like residents milling about would have helped (why was the bodyguard's jittering arm visible through the doorway in the media room, anyway?). It moved pretty slow, too, the narration, frame rate, and plot. I second the annoyance factor of that echo effect.

I also think it's pretty bizarre that you came up with this concept on your own. The Farewell Ranch commercials in GTA: Vice City were what I immediately thought of, too. Very similar. (That's a PC and PS2 game, pseudo-sequel to Grand Theft Auto III.)

Oh, by the way, you can replace movies with updated versions of the .swf if you want to fix glitches like the stop action at the end.

Author's Response:

I agree that there were some shaky parts in this cartoon. It was basically my first flash cartoon, so I was still learning.
The bodyguard's arm shouldn't be jittery unless the graphics on your computer are lacking. He's supposed to be keeping an eye on the old man from the hallway.
I drew a picture about 15 to 20 years ago of an old man escaping from an old folks home. I showed it to a buddy a few years later and we worked the idea into an audio commercial parody. Basically what you hear in the cartoon.
I'm not familiar with the Farewell Ranch commercials. I'd love to see them though.

Thanks for your comments- John

You, bar none, are the most talented artist submitting here. The fact I have never seen you on the front page is a travesty.

Keep up the good work!
