Sadly, L4D and its sequel cannot be mounted into Garry's Mod. You will have to download them and put them in the correct folders. Here are some links to get you started.

They are in your garrysmod/garrysmod folder. Look for the screenshots folder.

What you do is you go to www.garrysmod.org and go to the backgrounds section. (You have to pick a file from this section as the background has to be a VTF file. If you can make a VTF file yourself, then do that instead).
The you download a background you want, extract it, and then go to Your garrys mod folder and go to here.
Garrysmod > Garrysmod > materials > Console
You will see a bunch of files. Delete all of them and put your downloaded background files into the console folder.
Start up garrys mod and voila, new background.

Oh and if you are worried this will screw up your game. Don't worry, worst case scenario is that you don't have a background at startup.
You can get L4D2 and L4D1 models with auto-mounting.
