Free Artwork Fla For You! 2007-08-22 19:42:07

Want to do a quick flash but need some characters? Try this:

http://www.inflatablestudios.com/generic haracter_jaleho.fla

Three characters, broken into symbols, placed on layers. Blinking eyes and mouth positions. Basic background, too (both close-up and far-away versions for switching between shots, both tiled/wraparound for scrolling backgrounds). And a lightsaber. :)

I am very interested in seeing these characters used in finished products. Be sure to PM me when you have submitted a movie using them to the portal.

The animation and source is limited now, but I will be making updates to this file as the days go by, adding things like additional hand positions, walk cycles, other expressions, props, backgrounds, costumes, and additional characters.

Let me know what you think, and post any suggestions that you would like to see.

Hate to rain on your parade, but those aren't very good, be they judged by either technical or stylistic standards.

Compared to 90% of the portal submissions? They're cartoons, not realistic action ninjas. They're tweenable, not fbf sculpted. And they're free for others to use, otherwise they'd look more like my regular art ( http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs4/i/2005/13 7/a/f/Off_The_Page_by_jaleho.jpg ) -- and those would be a real bitch to try to make tweened animation parts out of.

You're certainly not using the picture from your profile/banner sig as a basis for comparison, are you?

They look like family guy rejects.

Most people with any kind of practice in flash could replicate this, so there's no reason to be bragging as if you've done something impressive here.

On that note.....they look "ok" at best.

Please insult me now.

Most people with any kind of practice in flash would not need to use someone else's free FLA file -- they would create their own characters. And judging by the majority of NG submissions -- not the Front Page Features, not the top 50 all time winners, not the daily winners... but the masses that are blammed or barely make it out of judgment -- there are folks who would benefit from a pre-made set of art to work with as they are starting out. Some folks can draw, some folks can animate, some folks can tell jokes. Not every one can do all three, or want to. This way folks can skip a step if they'd like.

I'm not bragging that I created some awesome artwork -- my deviantart page ( http://jaleho.deviantart.com/gallery/ ) is for my art. I made these characters in a matter of a few minutes intentionally to look generic. I used ink outlines rather than shape outlines, which would look much better. I'm letting beginners know there is a resource FLA freely available to them. Other artists charge or keep their FLAs to themselves.

As for an insult, I don't really know what to critique. Your last four submissions are a video clip of a guy dancing, a spinning purple head, an orange haired guy sliding sideways and some flashy kaleidoscope thing. Your zazzle gallery has good art, but I don't see any of that in your flash movies -- is there an older submission I should look at?

I'll ignore the deviantart whoring, since I do it, too.

No, I'm not using my signature/banner as the quintessential epitome of art, by which to compare all art to (as if I need to state the obvious).

I'll concede to your point: compared to the majority of the submissions that make it through, yes, they're good. But considering the submissions, I don't think that amounts to much.

I'll even agree that you're offering potential help to people who otherwise couldn't animate anything worth watching--or even waiting to load for.

But these could be better. No, your regular art would not be that hard to make symbols for animation out of, trust me. You said it yourself:

:I made these characters in a matter of a few minutes...

And, dare I continue, you did so..

:...intentionally...

If you're going to help, try putting more effort into it. I still opine that they're not very good.

I think it's a cool idea, personally, and the girl and the guy with the bald head don't look all that bad.

I think you are being incredibly ignorant and stupid and posting these terrible drawings aren't going to impress anybody. Not even on this forum.

It's a good thing you typed that otherwise nobody would have read your post.

Go back to bed, Grandma, you senile old cunt.

The most detailed accounts of Jesus' birth are contained in the Gospel of Matthew (probably written between 65 and 90 AD/CE),[5] and the Gospel of Luke (probably written between 65 and 100 AD/CE).[6] Scholars debate over the details of Jesus' birth, and few claim to know the exact year or date of his birth or death.

The nativity accounts in the New Testament gospels of Matthew and Luke do not mention a date or time of year for the birth of Jesus. In Western Christianity, it has been traditionally celebrated on December 25 as Christmas (in the liturgical season of Christmastide), a date that can be traced as early as 330 among Roman Christians. Before then, and still today in Eastern Christianity, Jesus' birth was generally celebrated on January 6 as part of the feast of Theophany,[7] also known as Epiphany, which commemorated not only Jesus' birth but also his baptism by John in the Jordan River and possibly additional events in Jesus' life. Some scholars note that Luke's descriptions of shepherds' activities at the time of Jesus' birth suggest a spring or summer date.[8] Scholars speculate that the date of the celebration was moved by the Roman Catholic Church in an attempt to replace the Roman festival of Saturnalia (or more specifically, the birthday of the Roman god Sol Invictus).

In the 247th year during the Diocletian Era (based on Diocletian's ascension to the Roman throne), Dionysius Exiguus attempted to pinpoint the number of years since Jesus' birth, arriving at a figure of 753 years after the founding of Rome. Dionysius then set Jesus' birth as being December 25 1 ACN (for "Ante Christum Natum," or "before Christ (was) born"), and assigned AD 1 to the following year-thereby establishing the system of numbering years from the birth of Jesus: Anno Domini (which translates as "in the year of Lord"). The system was created in the then current year 532, and almost two centuries later it won acceptance and became the established calendar in Western civilization.

It is hard to date Jesus' birth because some sources are now gone and over 1900 years have passed since the Gospels were written; however, based on a lunar eclipse that the first-century historian Josephus reported shortly before the death of Herod the Great (who plays a role in Matthew's account), as well as a more accurate understanding of the succession of Roman Emperors, Jesus' birth would have been before the year 3 BC/BCE.

The Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Matthew both place Jesus' birth under the reign of Herod the Great. Luke similarly describes Jesus' birth as occurring during the Roman governorship of Quirinius, and involving the first census of the Roman provinces of Syria and Iudaea. Josephus places the governorship of Quirinius, and a census, in 6 AD/CE (which Luke refers to in Acts 5:37), long after the death of Herod the Great in 4 BC/BCE. Hence, debate has centered over whether or not the sources can be reconciled by asserting a prior governorship of Quirinius in Syria, or if an earlier census was conducted and, if not, which source to consider in error.[9]

The date of Jesus' death is also unclear. The Gospel of John depicts the crucifixion as directly before the Passover festival on Friday 14 Nisan (called the Quartodeciman), whereas the synoptic gospels (except for Mark 14:2) describe Jesus' Last Supper as the Passover meal on Friday 15 Nisan; however, some scholars hold that the synoptic account is harmonious with the account in John.[10] Further, the Jews followed a lunisolar calendar with phases of the moon as dates, complicating calculations of any exact date in a solar calendar. According to John P. Meier's A Marginal Jew, which takes into consideration the procuratorship of Pontius Pilate and the dates of the Passover in those years, Jesus' death was probably on April 7, 30 AD/CE or April 3, 33
