Could anybody give me alittle bit of pointers/tips on making trance?
I'm having a hard time creating a couple of tracks right now, and I would definantly appreciate some help.

Gating effects normally make the melody synths sound pretty cool.. its always good to have at least 2 different leads that stand out above everything else (most of the time people use higher pitch leads).

Synths, probably one of the most important (atleast I think so) parts in trance. I dont know what programs you use (I use garage band at school), but use synths more as a back beat, and it comes out pretty nice.
Use a lot of bass too. Not as the back beat though, make it more noticable.

If you want to produce real trance.

Do NOT use 4x4 offbeat basslines. or 8th note basslines that use octaves. I suggest a thumping, groovy bassline. Layered basslines as well, don't use one rythm, don't bore the listener, later new rythms and synths.

Make the listener fly... Make them move, touch them.

Do NOT bore them.

You have to be creative, you have to WANT to create something to create it. If you have no motive, or any idea at what your doing. Your screwed, ask someone like me, or b0unc3, or whatever person that does your genre well.

I personally, succeed massively in progressive and uplifting trance. None of which have been posted on newgrounds. I use a selection of programs, FL Studios, Cubase, Cool Edit Pro, Audacity, Reason 3.0, sample discs, and a large selection of VSTi.

The link goes to my website, which has clips of some ng submissions, and some non ng submissions. Again, its not like I create music FOR newgrounds. I create it for myself. And secondly, to please others.

its pretty common sense stuff

kicks on beats 1, 2,3,4
snares/claps on 2, 4
hi hats alternating on the ons and off beats
etc etc
