the end of Net Neutrality? 2006-04-25 17:38:40

I have been hearing rumours about the end of net neutrality aka uncensored internet access. The US congress is trying to introduce legislation that gives big telecom companies (e.g. verizon, comcast) the power to choose which websites load fastest for you and which take hours to load. This means that they could discriminate against sites that don't use their service or sites that don't MAKE THEM MONEY. the article is here:

a plain english rant about it is here:

That sucks. Isn't that against free speech?

I don't think you understand this concept.

It's goal will become censoreship.

You won't be able to do the same types of things that you do now.

There will be no RAB, no salad fingers, no violence, no rape jokes. Penis topics. Nothing.

All I have to say on this matter is - That is bullshit.

Luckily though I live in Australia, and while I'm not exactly up-to-date with Australian internet laws I am fairly sure that while there may have been talks about similar ideas in Australia, none of them are actually being seriously considered.

Yeah, but people here in Canada that use American ISPs are going to get screwed over too.

Luckily for me, my county has its own ISP service. :D

Hardly. Many countries restrict access to a lot of the internet.

So? If the law gets passed, you'd just use a different ISP to look at your porn.
