How to compress?

an swf is a compressed file, you could compress it more with winzip, but you wouldn't be able to upload a zip file to NG

I want to keep the quality and everything, but compress the size down to at least the mid hundred kbyte region.

that is not possible, flash compresses the file when it make it a swf, the only way to compress it further is to use a program like winzip, which you won't be able to play unless you unzip the file

That is basically what optimizing means.
