Have you ever decided to make a game? If yes, did you finish it? What kind of game was it? :)

I was in a team where 5 of us gathered 35 VERY talented people to make an RPG. People were from all contintents (literally), but because we aimed too high and we couldn't afford to pay them, the project failed. Lesson learnt: start small. :)

Maybe you were trying to make it too fast? Projects, especially games, take a lot of time and hard work.

Well, we aimed to make in under 4 years. But to manage a team that big that only communicates through Discord is way to hard, especially if you can't afford to pay anyone - that means you really can't "boss" people around, you depend on their good will to work. But we cut the team down, took the best 15 with us and now we're working on a 2D platformer :)

I am currently trying to develop my first game with a good friend o mine. Kinda rough finding people who will help us since we can't really pay since we haven't made any money :) But yeah mainly still need an animator. It wil be a 2d metroidvenia sci fi game for the pc, mildly souls inspired.

That sounds cool. I'm working on a freelance project at the moment, but I'd be interested in working with you when I have time on my hands. Can I see some of the work you've done already?

Awesome! I'm also in a team that's woriking on a 2D (2.5D actually) metroidvenia. What kinda skills do you have? There's 19 people in our team currently, but maybe we could cooperate. Perhaps at least cross-promote when the time comes if nothing else.

Cool! ^^ I have nothing except concept art to show yet, unfortunatelly. But the prototype should be ready in under a month.

Atm we have a newgrounds acount specialy for the game we are making. link http://splicers-of-lazarus.newgrounds.com/
On there we have some music from our earlier stages of development. And a discription that gives a rough idea of what we are making.

We also have a game design document thats around 37 pages atm. But id prefer to only show that one to people who im gonna work with for secrecy :)

My problem is laziness.

Also I still have a couple of ideas for mechanics; most of which I've implemented the bare bones for in the form of circles and squares but I found it's one thing to be inventing mechanics, it's a totally different thing implementing them.

Being an active mod player (Fallouts, Super Mario World, Meat Boy) one of the things often cited as "pitfalls" in level design is having a game containing too many gimmicks. A notable romhack called "Brutal Mario" for example fits this as does the popular game "Dumb Ways to Die".
However, I find that levels of my my games ended up being like these "Gimmick: The Games"
I guess there is a certain level of enjoyment you can get with "Dumb Ways to Die" in that you have to adapt to the randomized mechanics within a given time constraint.

Compare these types of games to Angry Birds for example. People may hate Angry Birds all they want but you can't deny their level designers did a great job at using the Physics + 5 or so types of projectiles available. The sequencing of projectile type alone is a challenge and easy as it looks, I don't think I can come up with very creative levels WITH difficulty scaling progression to take into consideration.

You look like an experienced guy. When did you start making games? Btw, which language are you programming in? My project leader just instructed me to find a guy who would be willing to work in C# and with Unity, if you might be interested? Add me on Discord - TilenM.#9751 - if you wish to talk more. :)
