Hi

I've wanting to buy a new PC for some time now. The thing that held me back was the idea of having Windows 10. I know it has Directx12 support, but that's it, AFAIK.

If I buy hardware like: Skylake CPU, LGA1151 Motherboard and around 16 to 32 GB DDR4 RAM (plus a Geforce GTX 1060 or 1070) - will Windows 7 (64 bit) still be able to use its hardware ressources optimally?

I have also considered Win7 / Win10 dual boot if that's possible. And then just use Win7 most of the time.

Any gamers around who have new hardware but still run Win7? :) And what is your experience regarding the performance?

I would if Win10 did not have this issue: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-desktop/high-contrast-themes-issue/ff386d33-dcfe-4116-8d4a-9c8cd06eb4c0?page=1

that's not a real issue of technicality, also WIN10 should be your primary (begrudgingly) due to the fact its highly optimized and has DX12 unlike 7.

Do you like being spied on and having almost no control over Windows Update?

When I upgraded, EVERYTHING completely slowed down or was almost impossible to launch. I switched back immediately.

Microsoft wants every one on windows 10 so they can start charging as a subscription service for using their software. ALREADY STARTED FOR SOME BUSINESS USAGE WONT BE LONG AND YOU WILL BE RENTING YOUR OWN COMPUTER.

As to your question you should be able to wipe the hard drive or install a new hard drive (Keeping the old drive as a backup) and install windows 7 on the new drive. You will be able to get drivers that will allow windows 7 compatible usage from the manufacturer.

Frankly, I didn't like win 8, hate win 10,
win 7 seems the best option for our usage.

If you have Windows 7, there's really no reason to use a newer version. Windows 7 will be completely viable for a long time.

Just upgrade to Windows 10. Who cares about the aesthetic themes?

Just don't get a Kaby Lake processor if you're still planning on using Windows 7.

Kaby Lake will be Windows 10 exclusive, as far a Windows goes.

Not sure what Cannonlake will be like in terms of Windows support.

A truly prophetic sig...
