Your Happy Place.

Does anyone have a place that they go that they consider their happy place?

Mine is a local bookstore. Many times, I've waltzed into the bookstore on a day when I felt miserable/stressed and suddenly became overwhelmed with happiness at the sight and smell of all the books. I'll spend my time running my fingers over all the books, and reading through the first pages of some to see if I'm interested in purchasing the book. Purchasing a couple of books and knowing that I'll be able to read them later provides me with a cathartic release. I currently own four full bookshelves, and one of the shelves is my "to-read" shelf. My full to-read list has 750 books on it as of right now, and I only own a bookshelf full of them. I've read 405 total, and own around 220.

What is your physical happy place, and why?

My physical happy place is a stretch of beach that's mostly devoid of locals or tourists. I try to take a walk there at least once a week when it's near dusk and the weather is okay. Nice to feel the ocean lapping at my feet.

Outside. It's really nice outside, and I just forget about all of my problems, even when it's hot as fuck.

Do you call this place "Echo Beach" by any chance?

A truly prophetic sig...

Monterey, California. I fucking love the smell of the ocean, the absolutely beautiful landscape, and the hustle and bustle of the hundreds of tourists and traveler's from around the world. I never find myself sad or stressed there.

Oh, and also, clam chowder on the Fisherman's Wharf is to fucking die for.

Taking a dump in the bathroom. It's the only private place I get in this group home. Or late at night I can go on my PC when everyone's asleep. Watching porn at night, again because people are asleep. Or watching porn in the bathroom. The house manager is against us watching porn, like we are little children.

i don't really have one, never have. but i can sit nearly anywhere and focus on insignificant things to pass the time.

And thinking about insignificant things makes you happy?

And thinking about insignificant things makes you happy?

i wouldn't so much say that, just that i can take in something minute (small) and make it distract me from the soul crushing.

i like staring at bodies of water, grass blowing in the wind, insects doing anything at all, etc, that sort of insignificant thing.

sometimes it's only those situations i have any real peace. my mind is always going, whether i say i'm thinking about something or not. when people talk to me, i usually have my own thoughts running and am able to think about and listen to both.

Anywhere where I can set something on fire, specifically wood. The smell of burning wood and the beauty of fire can always make me happy.

Damn, yeah. That's a good one. Being near a campfire, under the stars.

I really don't have anything resembling a happy place.
Everything makes me feel equal levels of just whatever.

When you get into one of these groups theres only a couple of ways you can get out. One is death. The other is mental institution.

I do. But hardly anything makes me genuinely happy.

As a professional, I would like to suggest that you obtain a mental health assessment and follow through with any type of recommendations, including counseling. I'd recommend CBT.

I don't understand how people can enjoy reading. Or rather, I don't understand my inability to enjoy it.

Anyways. My happy place is my room. It's where I can isolate myself and socialize exactly as much as I'd like with virtual representations of other people. Wherever I find myself, my room is my haven. Shared with no one.

I specifically make sure that no location where I am present is happy.

In a far distant *time phase*, there's an out-of-the-way cafe on a cliff top. I go there when I need some peace and quiet.

My computer desk is a good place, as is my workbench.

The computer desk is perfect for playing games and watching movies and television shows. My workbench is excellent for reading and tinkering. If I'm home, there's a good chance that I'll be at one of those two places.

Do you have trouble visualizing what you read? Nearly all of the people I've met who don't like reading find it difficult to visualize and read at the same time. I honestly can't tell whether the visualization process is purely instinctive or something that is learned because I've been an avid reader for a long time and I can't remember a time when I couldn't do it.

Honestly I don't think it's that. I'd like to think I have a rich enough imagination to handle most of what I read. Tbh I wager that school is what led me to having an aversive reaction to books and literature. I seldom enjoyed reading - whether it was textbooks or novels. Being forced to read for years on end made it worse.
