It would likely depend on the cause of the breakup but my guess is 3 to 5 parts with several disputed territories.
The west coast blue states including California,Washington,Oregon, Hawaii and the southern part of Nevada containing Los Vegas along with America Somoa,Guam and the northern marina islands would all form a region we'll call "The Pacific States".
They would have ties to both china and mexico.
The eastern blue states along with several swing states would form a nation we'll call "The Atlantic Fedoration".It would likely consists of Everything on or near the east coast from Maine down to Virginia. They would likely have ties to the EU.
Michigan, Iowa,Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota would either be their own country or merge with The Atlantic Fedoration.
The middle American states would form a nation we'll call "The American repulic".
There would likely be conflict between the American Republic and the Pacific states over east Oregon and Washington in addition to northern Nevada. Alaska would be caught in a struggle between Canada, Russia and the Pacific States. Puerto rico and the US Virgin Islands would likely go to the Alantic Fedoration.
Libertarians and Paleo-Cons along with Miltia groups would also likely try to form their own Nation in either Texas,New mexico or the northwest around Wyoming(see the american redoubt concept).
