I dont know, the third one is from the auto contrast option in PS, are the colours I'm using too dark? But the auto contrast one looks so light -_- I dont know :/

Well the value read is definitely best in the second one, but perhaps I should also add more lights? Help me? Maybe I should just do colour/value studies from other artists and old masters

While the middle one is the best value wise, it's too desaturated color wise.

To help break the dull colors you can try having the blue light source at a much higher saturation. Judging by your choice of colors down there, your lightest blue isn't visually represented yet. Try using that.

Understanding value helps you see the contrast between light and dark. Understanding saturation helps you see how dull and vibrant colors can compliment each other.

Thanks, I'll try that on the next one, i didnt use the full range of colour because i thought it might be too visually distracting. The problem with colour is that it seems to be all theory based for me and I cant instinctively grasp these concepts, some people just seem to get it

I figure i should post some things from my actual sketchbook or else this thread might die. These sketches are done while i wait for lectures to begin so they're nothing special and alot of them are without reference

Thanks so much I appreciate it. I looked through some of your art, pretty creepy and different, congrats on the feature. Who are your influences?

Tried doing the whole greyscale to colour thing, got so frustrated after fiddling with it for too long :/ I still feel like it looks a bit washed out though

some more painting practice, I feel like the more I paint, the more i realize how little I know :/. Skin is also the most frustrating thing, i think it has a lot to do with my edge control or lack thereof

If you're stuck for material, I'd say to just spend a good couple of hours going through blogs and such and just gather yourself a big ol folder full of folders of art references.

Just google search [x] photos/blog etc and see what comes up. Examples could be street fashion, high fashion, fantasy, sci fi, military, environmental, architectural, animals, exotic animals, pornography, sentai, cosplayers movie screencaps etc. Just whatever springs to mind. I've found that has really prevented me from just getting fucking bored from not really being able to come up with shit to draw.

Other than that, bloody nice thread mate. Real sketchbook, using it in a way that benefits you the most.

You should upload more often though. Daily, even. Don't worry about wowing anyone, keep the train rolling, you dig me?

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that, definitely with the screencaps and environments, i need to step up my art game :|. I always promise myself that I'm gonna post more and I never do, doesnt mean that I'm not drawing though.

Anyway, a quick figure study I did
