Neither one is really desirable, but if you are being ignored, then to some extent you are either beneath notice to raise much of a fuss about, whereas being hated means that you are going to get the attention that you deserve even it isn't what you really want.

Think of it like this, when you're ignored, you really have nothing to prove to anyone but yourself whereas being hated at least allows to be sharp and allows you to adapt and grow. Keep in mind though that this isn't a 100% hard and fast rule, and we see plenty of people wilt under the hate and people do good stuff while under the radar.

I've been hated it was great time of life. Kids would avoid me at all costs apart from the occasional fight I had no real interest or interaction with kids

Im already ignored because I dont put effort into starting relationships because I fear being hated.

I wouldn't use the term "ignore" per say, but "shadowy, mysterious, lurking, obscure", and have a "cult following". That way if I'm ever hated my "cult" would stand up for me.
