our demo has turned into a semi-complete track. needs to be mastered by a professional, i (Tony) mastered it and i'm a fucking idiot, but it sounds okay i think. it also still needs a solo and vocals. i'll update the song when it gets a solo, i'll upload a separate track w/ vocals.

Tony here. Okay so I learned a bunch about compression and equalization and you guessed it I remastered every single Ultramartyr song again. They're all mastered almost identically except for each individual instrument since that varied between tracks quite a bit. I'm going to include all current UM tracks, except for my personal Castlevania covers, in a free Bandcamp album and never touch them again (knock on wood).

i think what you're hearing is the difference between EZDrummer 1 and 2. James has 2 and does the drums on our original tracks, and i use 1 for my solo stuff. 2 sounds a lot better and i intend on upgrading soon.
SD2/EZD2 do indeed improve on previous versions, but you can still get great sounds out of those. I'm aiming more at the programming. The 'vania tracks have nothing but kick and snare going on, and the sonic track mainly rides on the floor tom almost exclusively with a few cymbal hits as fills that are buried in the back of the mix. Spend some time with your bandmate who did the programming on the previous tracks (or better yet a drummer if you work with one) to get some insights. Toontrack also provides a mountain of midi grooves and fills that you can drag into place to arrange and tweak, which is often overlooked.

the drum tracks on the video game covers emulated the original tracks, that's why they're so basic. drums have always been a weak point for me because i dread programming them, it's the most tedious thing in the whole wide world. that's why James is the drummer ^_^. every "Tony solo" track on the UM account is a cover for a reason >_>, it's so i don't have to program drums. i generally look own on grooves and loops, but shit at this point it's probably the best option for me to actually start putting down some complex drum tracks.
also the option to pay what you want on UM's album is now available. so there's that. took me forever to set up that fucking paypal account

forgot i had a portfolio thread
two new versions of old songs. when i recorded my See Through Darkness cover, i was coming off a long hiatus from writing and recording, and had to get my bearings with my equipment again, and as such my tone on that release was pretty garbage-y. so i fixed that and re recorded it.
the other one is a remastered version of a really old release of mine. i've been sitting on the remastered version almost as long as the old one has been up, just never submitted it... oops.
also, an all-new original UM track is in the pipes, look for it soon!
Just wanted to announce that Honor now has a solo, i updated the file. vocals are in the works too, i'll be adding a new submission for the complete track, so there's a version with and without vox.
