Less competition in telecoms means higher prices, for infrastructure that's already been bought and paid for. There's not much incentive to spend more, to hook up the remaining single digit percentage of ppl (in the boonies of the US), with miles of lines, or towers that only benefit a few.

There's a lot of places on Earth, where you have little choice in how you connect... satellite is pretty expensive and laggy. The market dictates 'choice', so do nation-states. The bigger they are, the more they'll try and milk the fringe folk for all they're worth.

This is why I'm unhappy video and game file sizes aren't listed here anymore |: NG's biggest draw, is having a lot of good content, at low file sizes... Now we're not even supporting those unlucky few: who connect slow, pay by the gig, or just want a one-stop shop for entertainment that isn't heavily commercialized
