I've tried on three separate occasions to make an art blog on tumblr, but each time I get confused and frustrated. Anybody know how tumblr works? or what you do on the site? Any help is appreciated.

Before you can Tumblr, you must first become a -kin of some sort, with all manner of ridiculous pronouns, prefixes, suffixes, and titles to help you establish yourself in the Tumblr Hierarchy. In general, the longer it takes you to introduce yourself, the higher you are in the pecking order.
And if you're currently going to the gym, stop.

I just want to spread my arts like an infectious disease, why does this have to be so complicated?

If you're a Newgrounds OG who appreciates Flash games with depth, check out the game I made in 2024.

Oh, don't mind me. I'm Newgrounds' resident level 31 wizard. I pop in now and again to impart my vast wisdom on the population.
But I don't really know how the Tumbls work. They just do. It's like asking why the tide goes in and out, and we all know that nobody can explain that shit.
Your art looks pretty good, though. I hope you submit more in the future.

Thanks dude, I don't think I ever met a wizard before, so that's pretty cool. And I'm gonna keep submitting.

I can't tell whether you're summing up Tumblr or Newgrounds.

Supernatural gifs, gay pride, gifsets and unintelligent posts. Yep. Tumblr.
I know there's a lot of mumbo jumbo on it, but there's actually some decent artists on it too.
It kinda works like Facebook and Twitter combined. Both I'm totally uninterested in.
How about Deviant art? I know it's a hub for art theft but is it good for posting and getting views?

From a layman's viewpoint, Tumblr is basically a website full of pictures, and nobody is allowed to comment on your pictures, whether that's the purpose or not.
Here is both a funny and informative video I have seen about Tumblr that may (or may not) tell you how the site works. It's 75% satire, 25% truth, but as for technical help, I'm sorry, I can't help.

I've seen this video! and thanks anyway, maybe I'll find someone I know who uses it and they can hold my hand and walk me through it.
Sign up with whatever you want to be known as.
add a profile pic and blog header, write your description
Post stuff and tag it with whatever you want.
People can reblog your posts (reblogs are a way to comment and share at the same time - some people use the tags to comment on the posts)
Be ready for comments from angry sjw's though if you do genderbend art, or fan art where you change the skin colour/weight of the characters (but only if it's from a skin colour that isnt white)
What you do is simply upload your art format and insert as many relevant tags as you can think of.
We aren't fucking around when we say that if you aren't pushing an agenda of some sort you won't get much attention, but if you post frequently and follow a lot of other artists, you will in the very least get 20 or 30 notes per post.
Don't waste your time with DeviantArt. Unless you plan to make a lot of fetish art.
its only good for hardcore porn, mlp fetishes and anything remotely fucked up.
If I offer to help you in a post, PM me to get it. I often forget to revisit threads.
