Mixing Audio by Roey Izhaki is an excellent guide for basic to advanced mixing techniques. The studio I am studying at makes it a mandatory read. Its constantly in my home studio for quick reference during mmixing.
Bob Katz' Mastering Audio is always a great reference for mastering. Also in my home studio.
You could never be without theory books; I've got 4 at home (classical theory, jazz, and contemporary pop). Albeit doesn't say how to program or mix, its important to know theory.
If you have any synths/soft synths, outboard gear, unique processors (eg melodyne), GET THEIR MANUAL. And read them.
The first two, I'd stress a lot though. Amazing books for a combined 50 USD if that
Game Audio:
- Winifred Phillips: "A Composer´s Guid to Game Music"
- Aaron Marks: "The Complete Guite to Game Audio"
Audio Engineering:
- Gren M. Ballou: "Handbook for Sound Engineers"
- Andreas Friesecke: "Audio Enzyclopädie" (German Book - dont know if there is a english version)
Midi Orchestration / Orchestration in general:
- Paul Gilreath: "The Guid to Midi Orchestration"
- Peter Lawrence Alexander: "Professional Orchestration" (There are a few different volumes)
- Those Orchestration Classics of Rhimsky Korsakoff and Henry Mancini
Soundeffects / Foley:
- Theme Ament: "The Foley Grail - The Art of Performing Sound for Film, Games and Animation"
- Ric Viers: "The Sound Effects Bible: How to Create and Record Hollywood Style Sound Effects"
Hope that was helpful!
