The only person I know that does it persistently is superghandi64, and it doesn't really bother me, even though it's unnecessary.

Ah, my bad. I'm pretty sure people know what I mean though.
It is a gimmick that some posters use. Not a big deal.
Superghandi did it either because it was strange or because it made him stand out from the rest of the forums. Yes, it is unnecessary, but it doesn't really matter in the end. If someone wants to sign their posts, to each their own. Personally I only sign news posts, if that.
Maybe cause signing your posts is cool?

When people do this it makes their posts feel more personal or it could be just to add their own little flare to their posts.
