Dubstep is ... strange. Some of the content is ok while i have no idea how to use the other stuff reasonable. I still prefer to use razor for this kind of music ...

What i really wanted is
- a new version of requiem pro with a better word builder function (off course i would prefer EWQL to release a new choirs library which has a better sound, portamento and legato. I love choirs but meanwhile it has become quite old ...
- a better GUI for Liberis (which looks quite outdated)
- ethnic choirs and vocal effects (maori, slavonic and stuff). I liked the mars approach by soundiron but stil i think it does not sound THAT good.
- a good pipe organ collection comparable with the hauptwerk instruments
- a foley collection
- a set of effects to build your own soundeffects (based on recordings you do yourself)
- vintage instruments like playground carousel organs and stuff
- an orchestral percussion library comparable in quality to the spitfire percussion redux

What would you like to find in their new libraries?

I would love to see the ethnic choirs coming out, something like Arabic, Yiddish, Bulgarian or Slavic. Also the release on rare ethnic instruments, like kantele, pajupilli or African instruments.

I'm all for the 'world instrument' libraries, and I really would like to add some rich choirs to my collection, too.

Know what I'd like to see?

Tragic Strings.

A library that focuses on long string articulations that are very sad in nature.

Dry , dramatic vibratos. You can feel the desperation in the session player's heart.

IT'S ALRIGHT BILLY, STAY WITH ME, EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE OKAY!
WE'RE GOING HOME BILLY! WE'RE GONNA SEE MOMMA AND POPPA AND LITTLE BETH! AND WE'LL HELP OUT WITH THE FARM AND... BILLY?

BILLY!!!

STAY WITH ME BELAAYYY

You can create those with only Adagio Cellos. There are so many articulations in that library to create the most tragic sounds ever made.

Told ya, man; walking library dictionary!

Time to check out Adagio Cellos.

Here is an interesting slavonian / roman choir:

The latin stuff isnt interesting, but the russian choir.

Ilya efimov has got cool ethnic instruments, like the armenian Duduk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okcm1TDVbkg

Also his russian instruments are awesome. I have purchased a lot of stuff there during the last year.

Havent tried his chinese Bawu and Hulusi yet:

@LunyAlex

Know what I'd like to see?

:Tragic Strings.

You also can create those sounds with EWQL Hollywood Strings - especially if you have got the diamond edition with vintage mics and 3 mic positions. Listen to the official demo "Love Suspended"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hToumaP6z84

or the demo "Threnody Divisi" on their page. I have got HS and this really can be done in that quality.
http://www.soundsonline-europe.com/Hollywood-Strings

I think that the tragic feel mainly depends on orchestration.

@LichLordMusic

If they are releasing a second version or something similar to Free Radicals at a reasonable price, I will be insta-buying

Free radicals imo was underrated a lot. Very interesting sounds ...

Oh wow! Thanks for the suggestions. The duduk is hauntingly beautiful, it sounds quite similar to the duduk found in RA. I'm actually surprised by how much the domra sounds like a mandolin, though I guess I shouldn't be considering that they come from the same instrument family.

I am particularly impressed by the Bawu...just awesome! I'm going to have to delve a bit further into Ilya's other samples. :)

There's a weird lack of variety in the production in those new EDM library demos.

Hm but these are just 5 releases. We dont know what the other 13 will be! Hope dies last. And if they really dont release something interesting now it saves me money :D ... which i still will invest in cage brass, strings and requiem pro ...

I think there isn't going to be any epic percussion soon, as least for long time after they released Hybrid Tools 3 and CAGE bundles.

Hm but they dont have a product like Spitfire Perc redux or ProjectSAM True Strike. I want no epic percussion but a well crafted collection of orchestral material (because my EWQLSO perc is too wet / spirfire is perfect but too expensive / True Strike only has got 1 mic position so you need 3 to immitate this by yourself)

I have to correct myself - all 18 products will be for NI machine :( :( :(

Is this 8Dio's first venture into Maschine? Or have they done it before?

Btw, you can't mention tragic strings without mentioning Cinematic Strings. They're basically the Kontakt equivalent to Hollywood Strings, in terms of tone.

I've tried CinePerc on a friend's system. I LOVE the orchestral toms, but everything else was just "meh" to me. I stick with good ol' True Strike, because the tones are great and RAM footprints are very minimal. I know the old release allowed only 1 of 3 mic positions per patch, but the stage mics are all I ever need.

Oh - so you think true strike is still good enough for very good productions without changing a lot of stuff? If so i will try to get this asap!

For sure! I mean, it may not be the most organic sound compared to the newer stuff like CinePerc or Spitfire, but that flaw can be easily masked with a good performance. Also, the True Strike toms and bass drum sound the best when the mids are scooped.

The only thing worse than machine edm could have been aleatoric percussion :D :D :D

@JacobCadmus : I was thinking of getting True Strike 1 since a very long time but never could make a decision. Thanks for the help here!

Correction: I just purchased Project Sam True Strike I because i found out, that since an update from late 2013 there are 3 mic positions which can be adjusted within one patch (just like in 8Dio´s or EWQL´s products. Since this is said to be the perc library which is mist similar to Spitfires Perc (read this several times - also soundonsound) i call it now mine :D Hope it will be delivered next monday!

Good choice on True Strike! I never tried Spitfire Perc, but judging from the sound, it seems to put more emphasis on a softer sound. True Strike in comparison might not be as deeply sampled, but what it does offer is plenty of THWACK, which is an accurate representation of what orchestral percussion can really do. We're spoiled by the Hans Zimmer generation of epic taikos and sound design, that many of us forget that orchestral percussion can be plenty overwhelming as well.

I am still one of the "older" generation. My heroes are not zimmer or modern hybrid scorers (even there are a few guys who made awesome soundtracks - still love the m83 Oblivion one).

I adore

- jerry goldsmith, especialy for his alien score, which is an awesome example for the use of aleatoric and orchestral effects)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlECUbKkjQk

- toru takemitsu, because of the awesome score he did for akira kurosawa´s last movie "RAN". If i only could score that dark - maybe the darkest score i know. Listening almost hurts ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8to5vOkkXI

- Danny Elfman, especially because of his batman score. Nice use of orchestral percussion. I just love that powerful sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRZAk2rfESU

- nino rotha, especially for his scores of "Il gattopardo" and "The godfather"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_HNjLjqUgg

i know - i am old fashioned and hopeless romantically minded. But those are my heroes. The list is not closing - i may have forgotten a few guys :D

Nice references! I especially like Toru Takemitsu!

Speaking of Danny Elfman though, he is IMO the most creative user of non-orchestral percussion I've ever heard. You can really hear his Oingo Boingo roots shine through scores like Men In Black, Spider-Man, etc.
