Why are people scared to die? Is it because they like the life they live know and they don't want to see what comes next? I kind of do believe in a afterlife, but Im not scared to die. Even if there was no afterlife, what is there to be scared of?

I understand that. I don't want to die like that. I wanna die with a fuckin gun in my hand.

One word: Xenophobia
People who dont fear death tend to be reckless douche bags. I assume you go around smashing your dick against concrete dont you? You rebel you.

Humans naturally have the instinct to live. It's in our DNA code. We fight to survive. Sure, people threaten that all the time that they are going to go kill themselves but in reality they usually don't. That's why you see so many horizontal scars on peoples wrists.
Well if you don't have any sort of faith in an afterlife, then death is unfathomable and that's pretty spooky.

It's agreed then, being dead goes against our natural survival instincts. Who'd have thought?
I don't know what my life would be like if I weren't alive.

The two often go hand in hand.
Happily ETS'd.
People inherently want to matter, putting aside the survival instincts. We also have that fear of the unknown, fear of possible pain, and the unfathomable thoughts of what non-existence is.

Not to mention that it lasts, for like...ever.

I'm scared of living painfully
I don't think anyone's really scared of the inevitable; just more concerned with if they will be judged by a supreme being after they die or not
That's the possible scary part
Are you not Entertained ?!?

For me, it's what's after death. If there's no afterlife, then there's no thoughts, no imagination, no awareness whatsoever, absolutely nothing.
im a good boy
I guess in a way i am scared. But one just gotta live to the fullest and die that way. So yeah, just happens, sucks but happens.

Not having consciousness and being dead aren't the same thing. One of them is your sensory system not processing information correctly and the other is you not existing.
in the case of the latter,
no you can't

Probably because of the intense ways of dying, cancer being just one of many.

Mmm. Not really. Not fearing death isn't really the same as intentionally trying to get yourself killed all the time.
If you like cookies do you just eat cookies all the time as often as possible? I mean yeah someone who did must like cookies, but it wouldn't be true of most cookie-likers.

That's not right at all
when you go to sleep, the electrical signals that keep you conscious stop firing, hence you lose conscience.
also very much not correct and i'm not sure what gave you the impression that you lose consciousness during sleep
It's just a blackness in which nothing happens, no thoughts are being processed, nothing.
not entirely wrong but the brain doesn't completely cease to function during unconsciousness
That's death, just nothingness. So, yes, being dead is pretty much being unconscious forever.
probably not
I think you're clinging to a familiar idea like everyone does in their own ways as a method of avoiding the fact that you've only ever known states of varying cognitive existence, and as such it's literally impossible to imagine not having one. It's like trying to imagine a new color.

LOL yeah. I'm one of those people that thinks God is just the ultimate prankster, and this strange concept known as Life/Death is just one gigantic joke constructed by the most omniscient being ever, and when its finally all over its like:
"PSYCHED YOUR MIND !! !!"
and then a Rick Astley song begins to play

The problem is when you do get to see that new color, will you like it and will you be okay with seeing it forever? No more reds, blues, yellows or oranges. I just dont like the idea of getting there, hating it, and being stuck there.
Also I imagine being dead would be lonely as fuck.

Stahp. You're Skaren me.
My fear of death is tied to my appreciation for life. I've spent the majority of my life not really wanting to be alive, but when I start to appreciate life I also become more melancholy about the idea of dying.
