Hey there Newgrounders,

I've been attempting a walk cycle on a character but it doesn't look right can someone take a look and see what's up with it or fix it for me?

You also should not exaggerate walking if that doesn't fit your chosen style.

I personally always start with simple stick figure/skeleton animation. (Basically a guide line to make the animation more realistic) After that I just add the body parts.

Hello! I think the thing that may need some work in the animation is the body itself, because legs are not the only thing moving when you walk. cx
There should be a put of height differences when they bend the knees and brought back to original height when the foot makes new contact with the ground and both legs are straightened. C: I hope this helped!

Oh and try to watch these

It does not explain how these are made, but you get the idea that everything moves. Except for the gop guy in the evolution of walk cycles. He's not moving much, because he's walking really slowly, so that is OK.

The main problems with the walks were a lack of rotation in the shoulders or the hips of the characters and that they didn't bob up and down during the walk. Other than that it wasn't a bad attempt. Just read up on a few tutorials and keep trying and you'll get the hang of it soon enough.
Try this one maybe:
