Many of you know about the how-to video company Howcast, based out of New York City, who produce many videos ranging from all subjects and instructions on how to accomplish them, step by step.

They released (as linked above) "Puberty in Boys: Is Masturbation Normal?" where Dr. Jennifer Wider, M.D., a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, explains that masturbation in teenage males is a very normal activity, and there are even many benefits to masturbating. She says that even your dad, brother, or your bus driver has masturbated, and still may be masturbating!

Hey, there's a lot of religious fundamentalists out there who think it's wrong to masturbate. It's certainly better than seeing a video like that from some preacher. I actually remember this one PSA that also talked about that. They were talking about puberty and a mom walked in on his son masturbating and she said, "It felt good, didn't it?". Come on, those are way more informative than the lame anti-drug PSAs that are going around.

That's true.

I think they should take it further and teach kids in sex ed classes that masturbation is normal, safe, healthy and not something shameful.

People get it into their heads that it's some kind of dirty, shameful thing and yet they are compelled to do it leading to feelings of guilt, which is damaging to a young persons psyche.

When done safely there's also virtually no risk, unlike sexual intercourse with a partner, which is really what kids need to know.
