high quality looks better, but my personal opinion the shades need to be quite a bit darker since theres such a bright light source , highlights might need brightening aswell

When you outline something, make sure it's a darker colour than what it's outlining.
Now, there are 2 main options for outlining an object.
1) Outline in black. It's neutral and goes with everything.
2) Outline in the same colour as the image, but in a darker shade. So red gets ourlined in dark red, blue in dark blue, etc etc.

sounds like a plan. here is some more concept art. I guess this goes against your out line rules.
Any suggestion to improve this picture would be most appreciated. apart from the shadows on the character. Also you can't steal this design this a character for a upcoming animation series I'm working on
