I get the same thing, really if you want to export it you should do it as a j-peg then convert to gif elsewhere? Not sure if that is even a good idea.

Why do u need it as a gif?
the gif export of the IDE sucks, (as far as I can remember)
export to .mov and then convert this to gif.

So sorry for make a undead post, but I had this problem now and I learned how to solve it:
Transform the objet in to a simbol. The squares and lines will disappear in the exported gif.
P.D. I google this problem and the first response was this post. Maybe its usefull to somebody else.
