Well kids, I rarely if ever sample, so this is mainly for my amusement. I'm aware it's rough, but it's getting to exam time so I don't think I'll have any more time to work on it. This is also nowhere near traditional hip hop, so I don't expect everybody to like it, but I know there will be a few out there who do, as I have friends who listen to this sort of stuff. If you don't like it, that's cool, I get it.

EDIT: Unless your name is ses, I just felt like having a bit of fun there.

The "saws" that you hear are taken from John Zorn's Pacifica. I took a section of the bass and piano playing, killed the upper range in EQ, dragged out the attack and spread the release. I then bitcrushed the section, compressed it, added distortion and finally a touch of delay to give it that sweeping sound.

The crazy ADD synth line (as I affectionately call it) originated as a long trumpet note from Antibalas - Elephant. I repeated the note, gated it, applied a pitch shifter (With automation clips out the ying yang) before modifying the EQ, adding a touch of distortion and compressing the result to give it that fine synth sound.

The bass sound that comes in at the hook is an extremely chopped up and out of sync'd bit from Elephants as well. I took samples with the bass in it, added a doubler, a chorus and some reverb.

The piano is a chpped up from Sufjam Steves - They are Night Zombies.

I have a few seperate drum patterns here. All are chopped up and mixed from Mother Mother - body of years. Enjoy

Chopped and Screwed!

I'm not too keen on the art of sampling. I wish I possessed the skills of Ses (he spends hour on Youtube trying to learn the ways "hip hop").

I like the sound of this. The ADD synths really add a "sugar surge" energy to it/ the melody of the synths is cool. I thought the saws were a bit clumbsy; they didnt seem like they fit with the rest of the composition too well (my thought). The switch up was executed nicely, but I thought it was a bit too abrupt and the sudden change in mood was confusing.

Overall, I like the originality and uniqueness of this beat. Nice work Mike Stingray!

Blasphem-E responds:

Haha, unique is definitely a good word for it. Good points on all counts. Also, I chuckled at "Mike Stingray"

#HHH

Blasphem-E responds:

This isn't standard hip hop. Ever heard of ear candy? This is a very specific type of sound. I'm sure there's a lot of people who won't feel this one, but I do know people who listen to this sort of track, so this is for them. I couldn't give a fuck what you say Ses.
