snare def needs an upgrade, and the hats have too much treble

Ooh..

I like Drum & Bass that doesn't focus on a moody atmosphere. Rather, something evil as fuck which is why I'm pulled in by your tracks I guess. "Dead Space" being a fine example (when the fuck are you finishing that? You said you'd send me it like 6 months ago over PM)

As always, insane bass work. I'm really feeling the intro too! You should bring in a bit more orchestral sounding stuff into it. Maybe some strings playing a different progression and some orchestral stabs or something. Make it fucking epic because it seems as though it's the perfect base to do so man. But anyways, great composition and choice of instruments.

The mix in this track is pretty sweet. You've definitely improved your skills over the last few months but I still feel there's room for improvement. The snare in this seems to really fall to the back after the drop. Now, while you could boost a few frequencies to bring it out more, I don't think that's entirely the problem.. I feel the hats just have too much decay and are just too flappy. I feel something a bit snappier and more dynamic would make the mix a bit more spacious. That and the bass seems to be dominating up in this bitch too. Maybe just cut out some freq' for the snare though, everything else seems to be coming through just fine.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. In the end, this is one intense track with some real potentiol. I wish you the best of luck in your future productions dude.

SteakJohnson responds:

Thanks Sir Nech-bro, I wish there was more evil as fuck style dnb out there lol, too much of it is like you said, atmospheric (which isnt a bad thing rly) or just some wobbly square waves and breaks(dont even get me started about jump up lol), or gone way too far to the point of rhythmless breakcore (not to say that all breakcore is rhythmless). The orchestral stabs like you recommended are just what I was thinking for the track, they would add a delicious level of epicness. Glad ya like the basswork, somehow it always turns out prty decent. And about the dead space track.... I havent really worked on it more yet lol, its on a computer at my grandparents' house... and when I move it to my houses' computer a bunch of samples just dont work for unknown reasons. Also, that was more than 2 cents dude and for that I thank you (again!)! School and stuff has been preventing me from producing much lately. Btw, your forum signature/banner is rather awesome looking.

This + Blast Furnace = Insta Fav

Finding good artists on here who consistently and regularly throw out solid tracks is hard without relying on the Front Page.

-Is that some "Madness Combat"-sounding arp in there? Or more like Resident Evil. Gives the intro an interesting feel.
-Nice mixing of the main baseline; some interesting reverb effects too.
-Hats are a little bland; they fire too rapidly and they blend in together. You can add a similar effect using lightly mixed static, and it provides a little more flavor to boot. Google "white sound" or "pink sound" and spice it up.
-Play a little bit more with panning: the drop at 0:18 introduces some effects that tickle the ears for a moment; applying it more throughout the song. Maybe the intro baseline could go back and forth lightly; the break at 0:43 is also a nice opportunity.

Nice music and good luck with your future tracks: expect at least one more rate+download.

SteakJohnson responds:
