"Ramona" (Scott Pilgrim cover)

A cover of Beck's "Ramona," from the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Great movie, watch it. It's worth a watch, even if for whatever reason you DIDN'T like it.

Oddly enough, after debating with myself halfway through it, I chose to do everything in one take (save for one strum that I tacked onto the end). That means everything is there -- all the peaks, all the poorly-hit notes, everything. But that's what's great about live music -- it's all there, in the moment.

I did this to celebrate, for myself, my first viewing of the movie in 2011. I also did it to prove that I don't completely suck performing live.

Agree? Disagree? Like the song, or don't? Comments, questions, whatever? Leave a review :)

Ryanson responds:

I do love the books, and I adored the movie at the time I made this. Watched it multiple times a day for several days. I'm excited to purchase the game's rerelease.

Wow nice

So this was a nice sound and flavor you have here some really good vibe and flavor about it you really know how to put it together very well here and I like the style of it all so really nice job on this piece here and do hope you make more because it was nice and has a good sound about it

~~SUGGESTED IDEAS~~
Very nice sound here and no major changes really needed

~X~

Just like how it is in the movie!

Yay for Scott Pilgrim

This sounds just like the original but with a different voice to it as well. I really did like the movie and now I have something very close to the original so I am pretty happy with how this one turned out as well. Kind of makes me think of my own escapades in my head that I have on a daily basis by myself. The lyrics are very strong and come out swinging very good.

The overall flow is great and fits close to the original. Great job here on a cover song. Looking forward to more.

Your own escapades? Oh man, let's hope someone turns it into a movie. :)

Thanks for the review.

I LOVE SCOTT PILGRIM! :)

Hey ryanson,

--Production--
Firstly I have to say... Best. Movie. Ever. OK, now for the song. You replicate the feeling quite good. This is my favourite song from the movie, and you do it quite a bit of justice. The choice to do the 'live' thing was for me a benefit as well as a hindrance for me. It added to the authenticity, but also detracted from the experience sometimes. But I admire your bravery and experiment :)

--Experience--
This song carries much of the emotion that is held at the scene in the movie. And boy, are those chords potent. I just love the way how they meld into each other without a sense of where we're going, but we'll just get there in the end :)

--Style--
Melancholic. That's a way to describe your style of playing. Prudent, precise, yet also wholeheartedly unabashed. Reminds me of the way Jeff Buckley sung. And you've actually got quite a good voice, which I didn't really detect in your song "Scorched Hair and Burnt Guitar".

--Wow Factor--
It's a song full of different hopes and dreams, and you convey this with a surprising tenderness. Sometimes the quality of your mic causes your voice to buzz when you sing too loud, which is either good or bad.

--Personal Tilt--
I like this. It's raw, real, and live - if you can call it that. A good cover of a song that has beautiful chords and a lot of feeling. You really had some guts to cover Beck, but you pulled it off with aplomb. Thanks for letting me listen and critique.

Ryanson responds:

It's as live as recording on my computer can get. :)

The chords were what made me consider recording all my parts (all two of them) separately. Took a bit to memorize them and play them... in one day lol.

Yeah, Beck's a genius man. The songs he wrote for Sex Bob-Omb I heard he wrote in one day. i wish I could do that, man.

Thanks for the review.
