Dat Beeshbawl (Dubstep)

Honestly, I don't like Dubstep that much. It was fun earlier last year, but that petered out for me really quickly. Anyway, I've always wanted to try incorporating a Dubstep bassline in my Dnb/Breakcore songs, so here we go.

I mean...

If we didn't push the limits of Dubstep, it wouldn't be Dubstep. I like all the sounds and the synth/bass. Good transition between the intro/any vocals and beat but the beat is a little 'uncomfortable' for lack of a better word.

lolwut

Not bad. It certainly sounds like beeshbawl sometimes and meatball at others. The guy sounds like he wants a beach ball and the girl wants a meatball. NO YOU BAAAAD CAT! Pretty funny overall. The intro was funny and the melody seemed to work pretty well in my opinion.

The dubstep line was a bit devoid of change for a while, but when you did change it, it sounded good. The timing on the vocals was perfect, and I like the way you had them echo and chopped them up. Sounds good.

Overall not a bad tune. I'll eat it.

Weird

The intro was kind of unfitting. What anime/show did that come from anyways? The beat makes me feel really awkward for some reason as well. The drums and synth sounded pretty good though. What was with that twang sound though? The other wet sound I hear is kind of odd as well. Very good but weird.

The song kind of makes me feel like I am defending a meatball on my plate of spaghetti. I don't know why I am trying so hard to defend it though since I am sure I have more hidden in the spaghetti. Very odd song.

Overall, kind of quirky, odd, and funny at the same time though. Nice job I guess. O_o

The source video is this old Russian cartoon that was dubbed into English horribly.

Anyway, I'm shocked that this song actually put you into a situation of any description, because I can't say I feel the same way. I just overall don't get the same feel from this song as I do from some of my others.

Still, I guess for a weird Dubstep song, I did alright.

I wan dat beeshball (meatball?)

hey RetromanOMG,

--Production--
The sounds you use are pretty standard yet they release too quickly in my opinion. The vocal samples can get annoying after a while ("i want a beach ball!"). As an experiment in merging genres, however, it works surprisingly well, and starts to rock hard after the first minute.

--Listenability--
The beats are nice and refreshing, they change frequently. However, I feel like the vocal samples are thinly coating a same-ish beat. The problem with experiments is that they have the tendency to end up very unchanging, and lack vibrant newness. The listening experience starts off with our attention, but then loses it in a maze of confusion.

--Genius--
You use sounds to nice and interesting effect, esp. in the middle. But instead of drooping in the middle I felt this song drooped on either side, making for very uneven listening.

--Flair--
It's interesting and new, and I'll merit you for that. The vocal samples are quirky, and the track is banging. But I'm afraid it needs that 'wow' factor, that recurring motif for me to remember this song by. And it doesn't seem to make its mark unfortunately.

--Tilt--
Overall I found this song very technically correct, but I was unable to connect with the song or be entertained by it. That's why I found it difficult to write this review. The words didn't flow as nice as they usually do. But thanks for letting me listen.

Same as with Jetpack's review, the main issue seems to be the vocals and their blending with the rest of the song. I could've done much more work with the percussion as well.

Ah well, I can always try again.

Oh, and the Beeshball thing. The speech is slurred in the source video, so "meatball" sounds like Beeshball. It's one of those forced meme things.

Needs Depth

The very first vocal is really high pitched and hurts the ears a bit, just turn that down a bit and it would make a great start for this song. This has good bass with a nice solid lead, but losses its depth around the 35 mark when the song gets more complicated. At 1:02, the drop should have been way more dramatic with an awesome filtered up lead mixed with a pause, and then a very heavy atmospherical effect. Having heavy bass with nice depth in dubstep songs is a very important factor. This means attetechnoishmpting to creating a nice layered track, almost as if it was surrounf sound. Treat it as a building with multiple stories. With just one story, it gets kind of cluttered. Dubstep needs many stories in order to achieve brilliance. Reverb, his, lowd, mids, none of that seems to be in there.

This song is, however, pretty cool for what it is. I did enjoy the electronic feeling to it in the beginning. It sounded more than anything.

RetromanOMG responds:

I agree with you on needing to check the volume on those audio clips, and the drop could've been better. I personally have never tried a Dubstep song before, so I literally have no experience with a bass drop.

Of course, there is always room for improvement, and I will definitely take your review to heart when I work on another Dubstep song.
