Awesome track.

Wow. I can't believe you almost had 7 minutes without it being too repetitive.

I disagree with 4 minutes being enough. It's probably much easier to make something four minutes, and you'd be taking a risk by makign it longer, because techno music can easily become VERY repetitive.

Pretty much every part has it's own instruments playing different melodies. Or not so different melodies, but just playing the melodies with different sounds. This makes sure you don't get an unoriginal and repetitive sound. The transitions between the different parts were also really good, and never felt out-of-place.

This doesn't sound a lot like hardcore, but after reading Stargenx' review (wanted to see why he only gave it 7/10), I see from your response that UK Hardcore is quite different, so I wont take any points from that.

The only issue I had was that there were some minor parts that didn't fit in completely with the entire song, but these are such minor things that you needn't worry much about them. What comes after the transition on 2.15 sounds abit out of place. But that might just be the genre, no?

Dj-Zurge responds:

Yeah, 7 mins can get risky, but we were going for professional length, and alot of UK Hardcore songs are around this.

Thanks, we worked hard on keeping variety and smoothness.

UK Hardcore is a modern style of Happy Hardcore, with a less childish feel and supersaw leads.

Nah, the stuff after 2:15 is just some stuff that I (Surge) randomly made. I showed it to Zerest (account partner), and we agreed that it would add a bit more variety to the song.

Thanks for the review!

Gufrogle. That is the question.

Firstly, I'd like to say that this song sounded too long to me. Any song over 4 minutes seems like it's pushing it. It had some thick and nice textures but then they got too thick. Maybe that's just because I'm not a fan of hardcore music. I'm just reviewing what I hear based on what I like to hear. That's the beauty of getting many reviews. You get many perspectives.

The part from 0:0 - 0:24 seemed like it had no relationship at all to the part that came next. The part at 1:00 seemed like a harder version of the second part, which was a good thing. Like I said, the hardcore sound seems too thick for me. It seems a little oppressive. That's just me though, I can appreciate good songwriting.
The part at 2:14, again, had no relation to what came before it. Then came 2:50 which turned it into a harder version. Nice trick.
It does sound a little disjointed, though. 4:00 was another such random change to hardcore part. At 5:30 the song was long enough for me to forget if I had heard that part before, so no nostalgia there. The song ended with the first part which was a good enough ending for the song.
Overall, I'd say that this sounds average to me. I've become desensitized after listening to years worth of Newgrounds' techno. 7/10

Dj-Zurge responds:

Only 4 minutes? Well considering that we were going for professional length, this is about average.

Too thick? Not very many patterns playing at once man, and this is completely different from Hardcore (UK Hardcore and Hardcore are two very different genres).

Alot of UK Hardcore has a hard intro and a soft transition or two.

So you're saying that Hardcore is bad songwriting?

The melody at 5:30 is a variation of the first melody, it's longer and has a few note changes, so it's not the same.

Then why are you continuing to listen to and review it?

,,..

Oh fuck dude!

im already pretty high, but im sure this would sound just the same sober, haha.

Definitely liked the progression the song had, had great melodies, great producing.

I've only listened to Surge so i dont know which part is which but i think you guys did a great job. lol.

Not as repetitive as some progressive trance gets which is a nice relief because i hate it when great melodies over stay their welcome. haah

As for the uk hardcore, havent really listened to that style of music, but it didn't really strike me as 'hardcore' unless uk hardcore is different. haha

Either way, i m diggin this mix.

Nice job

Dj-Zurge responds:

Lol, high. Weed amirite?

Thanks man.

I did the drums, progression, and the melodies from 2:12-5:23.

Yeah, tried to change it up alot.

UK Hardore and Hardcore are related, but sound completely different from eachother. UK Hardcore is a mondern for of Happy Hardcore, but with a less childish feel and Supersaw Melodies. Very different form regular hardcore.

Now is The Time (Original) - Scott Brown (Happy Hardcore)
Synthetic Dreams - Scott Brown (UK Hardcore)
Under Paradise - Noize Supressor (Hardcore)
(Just YouTube em)

Later man.
