Pimp that Space Ship is track one on a new Project I am working on. I hope to put together a demo CD soon. This song singlehandedly got me back into the groove.

Invariably this review will look incredibly tiny next to the epic constructive-crit might of Steph's...but a review's a review, so I hope this is helpful anyway. ;D

0:00-Really nice introduction. All the automations on the synths give this sense of evolution that's kind of alluded to in the title, and so the introduction is perhaps one of the highlights of the track for the sheer production value of it.
0:24-Guitar's cool when it comes in; feels a little weaker on the shorter notes, but still carries the lead melody well and settles this mellow feel to the track. The automated synths kind of take a backseat which is a bit of a shame, but the lead is nice enough for it not to be a problem.
0:58-Transition was nice and smooth, though theretofor this you've had pretty much the same drum beat, so could have used a change up to beef up the variety all that much more; drum beats are a pretty core thing, and changing naught but it can completely change the feel of a phrase, so I think you would have benefitted from changing it here, or perhaps later on.
Melodies are cool, but there's not one main theme, so to speak, that sticks out to you. Which is fine, but the track could be showcased a lot more if it had that hook. What you had worked and worked well, but could have been more phrase-oriented.
1:57-REALLY subtle transition to bring the lead guitar back into some precedence, really nice way to end the track.

If I was to say this was lacking anything, I'd say sectional variations. You have some lovely transitions, but they're relatively incremental. If you had a break into a newer, different-sounding section it would make the track pop out a lot more, giving it more colour. However as it stands, it's a pretty solid track with some nice sounds. THe kind of thing you could probably listen to for a good long while without complaint.

Syntrus responds:

Hey thanks for the review. Here is what I have to say. My song structure is a lot different then most persons. I don't shift my beats around a whole lot because I find that it interrupts the flow of my entire song, you gotta let it flow dude.Sectional variations do not exist, its not like there is a guide out there that says all music must have sectional variety! Variety is nice but I find that it only works on longer songs.

Glad you liked the track.

Peace.

You gotta love this song...

Wow, man. Never knew you were so good at making music xP. I mean, heck, if you took part in the NG Audio Deathmatch you would've gotten far. Lol, whatever, this song is really cool. I think it deserves its spot as Miscellaneous, because there's a mixture of Funk, Groove, Blues and Techno, all blended together so flawlessly to create something worthy of the 9 I gave it. Good job!

The melodies are just so catchy. Some aren't really that memorable, but others will echo around in your head for ages, especially the ones played by that quirky synth at 0:59. The stuff playing in the background was all awesome too. The bass, the pads, the drums, the high bells, the square-synth-ish thing, and the guitar, along with a few really nice effects. I mean, wow, there's so much to listen to! Best part is, the song never gets too cluttered or messy at the same time :D...

My only complaint over here is that this lacks some really epic guitar or synth solo. If not for a decent amount of time, at least for a few seconds, making it a sort of memorable moment to the song (a good example would be 1:04 in the de Blob main menu theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wQ2r8 o4w8A [remove space]). While I really like the melodies, I can't really say 'Oh, this is my favourite part!' to this song, since it doesn't have any climaxes or breaks. I was practically dying for one, even if for a few seconds :P.

The instruments all sound very good, and the amount of instruments were varied, with all of them sounding different to each other, as EmperorCharlemagne said. I think the guitar sounds a little thin and the bass could give a bit more of an impact in the song since it's a bit weak, but other than that, the instruments all sound incredibly awesome. The synth sounded very cool and the pad was spacey and yet still fit with the funk/groove-like instruments. Effects were also well done, although I would've liked to see some more space/warp-like effects. Might be just me though, I like space sound effects :3. Stellar job with the instruments! :D.

Transitions were also out of this world. The song flowed really really smoothly, and I love the transition at 0:57. Some notes cut off abruptly in this song (such as the note at the end [2:31]) which provided a weird and rough transition to the next note, but still, who cares about nitpicks anyway. New instruments were introduced really well, except the guitar which could've come in a little more smoothly with, maybe, pitch-bending. Small buildup in the intro was cool :3.

The song structure is good. Aside from the fact that this could do with a few more memorable parts in the song, the song was very well structured. The variety, on the other hand, could definitely use some work. The more I listen to it, the more I think that it needs a few more changes. The beat stayed the same for the whole song, the main instrument only changed once, and the background was somewhat the same for the whole song. Give it a few more changes, I'm sure that a solo of some sort will help you out in stopping the song from becoming repetitive :).

Still, the intro was among one of the best intros I've heard in a very long time, with a really nice filter effect automation to start the song up. I can't say the same for the ending though... It sounded really awkward, to tell you the truth. The synth played on its own for a bit too long and sounded as if all the instruments deserted it and left it to try and entertain the listener, until it finds out it's failing so it goes quiet too :P. Maybe you might consider a fade-out, I think it'll work well in a song like this...

The drum beat was really nice, and so were the samples, although the beat didn't change throughout the whole song. Just some shakers and a snare every other beat. I think if you vary it a bit more, at least giving it a few small changes here and there, it'd sound much better.

Overall, I enjoyed this submission a LOT, and even though it has some problems, I'm still downloading it :D. Keep up the awesome work!

Syntrus responds:

Maybe i'll shoot some keyboard solo into this to diversify. I am in the market for a modern FM synth at the moment. So I think once I have saved up for my new synth this is item one. Yeah man I wish more people knew about my skillz. Thanks for the wordy insightful review. I have always struggled a bit with transitions. I am working on it.

Another good Syntrus groove

The type of low-level beat/groove stuff you provide is always good for a listen, and most importantly, they all sound different (which is the mark of a good music-maker). Keep up that competence, man, because it works wonders on your listening audience.

Though as stated, this doesn't change much over the course of the song, I don't see that as necessarily detrimental; lots of funk or blues do the exact same thing, and it works very well (I personally like the style and utilize it myself).

If I can criticize anything, though, it's that the main synth could use a bit more variety... maybe some differing dynamics at the beginning and the end, like fading in and out... Just a thought, something to liven it up.
As well, this loops very well.

So anyway, this is pretty darn enjoyable, and i commend your effort.

Syntrus responds:

Yeah Charlemagne we are tight. Any favors you want from me will be extended.

Yeah diversity seems to be something you all like. I am not going to sell out that a really diverse song does more for an audience then a repetitive one.

As for the funk blues influence. I do listen to a lot of funk. I also really enjoy oldskool hip hop which borrows from the funk genre a great deal. I wish I knew two people to help me.
Chiefly here Is what I want.

One a drummer that owned some Roland Electro drums.

Two a lyrcist be it rapper or one with the ability to sing.

The other thing I would want is a Keytar! Cuz well that's just kick ass.

Well

-It has to be difficult for a pimp in space. There aren't exactly too many clients to work with but the ones that are there probably pay high dollar to ride in your ship.

-Very smooth throughout with the synth doing most of the work. The melody has a nice floating in space feel to it. It doesn't change a whole lot but the suttle variations in volume and tone make a big difference. The percussion elements stay almost the same throughout the entire song though. Try mixing them up a bit. The only change that I could notice was at :57.

-It's a good listen overall but it doesn't have a whole lot of variation to it. It's great for background music but as it is now it doesn't do a lot standing by itself.

Syntrus responds:

Hey thx for responding dude. Yeah I need a drummer. But you know man this is the perfect site for background music.
