This song isn't really about anything specific but more what you relate it to. The song is wrote about being stuck in a state of depression, where you find it most difficult to muster up any sense of happiness, and where an attempt will only bring chaotic distress. Most people relate depression to quiet sadness but a lot of depressed people switch suddenly from quiet and unanimated to hyperactive and on the edge, hence the song.
