Awesome.
The Quake soundtrack is in my top 3 favourite VG soundtracks ever.
I was randomly searching for info about it and came across a thread on a quake Forum advertising Project Aftershock. It was on the NG audio portal so I knew I had to check it out.
This sounds pretty good, however listening to it on my monitors, a lot of the more musical elements that were more prominent in the original seem to be way quieter here (specifically in the beginning/intense section) and it really detracts from the chaotic madness that was the original, even if still minimalistic in terms of actual tonal depth. I also really miss the distorted screaming effects that added to that chaos, and the yelling voice of pain that persists throughout the ambient part of the song, which gave it a tone of desolation, hopelessness and darkness. I do like the creature-like noises though, very fitting with the game's Lovecraftian tone.
Overall a good tribute, but missing much of the evil quality the original had.
Anyway I'm really glad to have found this project, best of luck to you guys, I hope you can give me a new musical experience the way Trent Reznor's work did when I first heard it.
Now I'm off to check out the rest of the tracks!
