I absolutely love the drawing!
It seems a little odd paired with that haiku, though, since the haiku is describing the visual of a firefly in plain daylight, and the picture appears to be representing a darker setting.

When wanting to do a children's anime sketch, I thought about using haiku, then found this particular one by Basho. The characters on the right read as follows (romaji and translation):
Hiru mireba kubisuji akaki hotaru kana
"Seen in plain daylight, the firefly has a red line on its back."
Now I shudder to think that the English translation for it sounds like something David Attenborough would say, but I digress.
And so, because lights, innocence and fireflies were things I liked to draw, I decided to work on this one. I grabbed a leaf off a leather-bound journal and a felt-tip pen, and started drawing. This is the result.
Another delightful illustration. The sketched style and shading techniques (like the delicate cross-hatching on the shirt, and the darkened areas of the tree, for example) make this a pleasant little piece.
The beady facial expression helps to capture the curious, innocence nature of the lantern-bearing character and the effort committed to this artwork really shows.
Love the addition of the Japanese script alongside, and I see the triquetra makes an appearance, too. Troisnyx was here, no doubt!

This style is making me burst with pleasure. If some book, be it children's book or mature-oriented, had such illustrations, I'd buy it and read it just to meld my imagination with these pretty drawings.
The picture is imprecise, but that only makes accent on the feel of the drawing, and not on what's depicted. The face is stylized, simplified, but that's a good thing. And the skill that you applied is high enough for the drawing itself to not be bad. This is perfect for mood-centered illustrations.
