My Ray of Sunshine

My entry for the April COTM.

The story behind the piece is quite personal. All through my pre-teen and teen-years I was heavily depressed and suicidal, and my dog - Cleo - was pretty much the light of my life for a long time. She would always comfort me, cuddle me, keep me company when I needed it the most. I'd talk to her, even if she didn't know what I was saying, but it was comforting having her just.. be there. She always made the big, dark cloud of shitty thoughts go away.
Sadly, she passed away about 5 years ago this summer and it still pains me. I didn't get to say proper goodbye to her, as I had just moved out from home, so this piece is also very healing for me. A chance to honor her a bit. I miss her.

Although the colors I've chosen are not super clear, I hope it is clear enough - the cloud bears heavy, deep blues, while Cleo is giving me her love and making me glow a little bit of red. She was also just the brightest point in my life for a long time, so the saturation on her is much higher than the rest of "my world"..

Anyway. It's hard to keep short.

the art very well detailed and conveys so much emotion even without the top part and just the boy and his dog, in a personal note I am sorry for what has happened to you and hope life brightens up.
