So, have been working on a hobby project lately.. And this is the result.. I'm not completly satisfied with the wall plant, but It gave me a lot of trouble, and I thought the scene was too boring without it.. Therefor, I worked on making it work ;)

So what do you think?

Well, overall this is nicely modeled and the composition is fair enough, but it lacks a lot before it deserves even close to five stars! Here are a couple of key points you can improve on:

- The lighting is really flat and there is almost no contrast, nor any cool specular highligts or awesome reflections
- There are almost no shadows or other means of darkened areas such as AO to make contrast in the render which essentially just proves the point above, lighting is boring, dull and kind of crappy
- The grass leaves lack translucency and look like (paper?)
- The chairs have a way too tiny stand and, especially the ones by the table, are to tall which means I'd squeeze and crush my thighs if I tried sitting down. Besides, their material is really diffuse and in no regard do they simulate cloth or leather or any other kind of usual chair material.
- The piano has got no reflections whatsoever. I don't know if you've seen a piano, but they have reflections!
- The room is not enclosed, which is why you have ugly, black reflections on the chrome part of your chairs (by the bar area). You should make all four walls and close the room and add furniture where the camera can't see (because it will be seen in reflections! Important <---
- The floor tiles, chairs, bar table and everything in general just looks totally out of scale. The piano is as tall as the bar chairs and the mirror is pretty much huge and the table is rounded and has the same material as the chairs! I mean, come on; that is lazy!
- Finally (trust me, I could go on like this, but I do not have time because it is Christmas eve and such), the image could use some color correction and post-work in Photoshop.

I do not understand why people blindly rate your images 5/5 or 4/5 because this is not worth 5 out of 5 stars if you compare with some of the really good stuff here. Besides, if you listen to everybody who praise your current work (I only take this image as an example) you will keep making these images because you think they are good. They are not. Only the true criticizing comments which point out what can be improved will actually help you improve. But it is important not to be discouraged by them and go on so you can actually improve! Regardless, I give you one star because you have made a nice image, bothered to post it and I hope you will read this and think about what I have said and make a new version of this image which you then will post and (please PM me) so I can see what you have improved / not improved. As already mentioned, there are a lot of people on NG who blindly vote 5/5 on everything which is 3D because they just think it is amazing. Keep in mind that this is not amazing in any way. Probably just amazingly boring and that is why I wrote a review. Because you need to improve and to improve you need people who are not blind, nor easily impressed. I am neither. Definitely not easily impressed. That is why I just, while writing this. Lowered my rating of this from 2/5 to 0.5/5. Because during my review I realized just how bad this is. But now I seriously need to stop.

I wish you the most Merry Christmas ever and I hope you will improve due to this review! How this got 4.69/5 by votes I don't know. Unless you have been voting 5 yourself for 13 days.. In which case you are bad at self criticism. Well fuck. This is getting longer and longer and I only have 700 characters left to type. But fuck it, have a nice day! Looking forward to your next 3D interior (or an updated version of this). By all means, do not be discouraged by this, but look at it as a way to improve!

Thank you for making something worth reviewing. (Even though it wasn't good)

I like many things about it. The room design and decor are well-thought out. The overly-minimalist style, particularly the bright-white everywhere, does make it easy to make a boring scene, though. The wall hanging does spice it up a bit, but it also seems out of place. I think a glass sculpture would go better, for example.

My biggest issue is the lighting. Your shadows just aren't ... well, there. I can see under the table that you've enabled shadows in the render, but in general it looks shadowless. I'm guessing you used a hemi light. Reduce the size of the hemi and maybe turn down how bright the light is. With all the bright-white in the scene, it's a bit overwhelming to have light apparently coming from everywhere. Also, there's a way to change the reflect surfaces (the steel of the chairs) such that it continues to be reflective, but less mirror-like. I don't know how to do that in your program, though.
