Dreamquest Ghasts Hunt

Share

Description used as inspiration:
Repulsive beings which die in the light. . . and leap on long hind legs . . . a pair of yellowish red eyes. Ghasts have indeed an excellent sense of smell. . . some about the size of a small horse hopped out into the grey twilight, and Carter turned sick at the aspect of that scabrous and unwholesome beast, whose face is so curiously human despite the absence of a nose, afore head, and other particulars.... They spoke in coughing gutturals.

Could imagine a strange wee game from this concept

Quite a unique aesthetic to it. Reminds me of oldschool characrer design found in the game Ecco and Space Harrier for some reason.

ItoSaithWebb responds:

Space Harrier, man I haven't heard of that old game in a long time. I use to remember how I thought that game was cutting edge in the arcade. The hope version was never as good as the original machine though. Still I remember the creatures in that game being more like dragons and such but not like what I created. Still glad you like the design and yes these concepts were as if they were for a game but sadly they are not, at least not yet. :)

Interesting

This Lovecraft novella is one of my favourites, since it's an epic trek through the Dreamworld and it's chock full of creatures. I saw your Randolph Carter pic yesterday, and I was hoping you'd have a crack at visualising some of the monsters.

You haven't disappointed, and you've painted it well as usual. I think the lighting on the ghasts could be less brilliant and more yellow to fit in with the twilight lighting of the scene, but I'm being pedantic to excuse an otherwise glowing review.

If you plan to make a series of these paintings dedicated to the story, I'll be looking forward to the results.

ItoSaithWebb responds:

I actually have more and will post them in due time plus I plan to paint more however I have been told and have found that people do not respond well or at all when I throw them all out at once. Just before the Randolph Carter piece I do have the Ghouls from the Dreamlands though if you missed that one.

Glad you like the work.
