The cast of The Jim Panzee and Friends Funtime Radio Hour. In 1938 the Waxo Fruit Company debuted the new children’s radio show on WCSH in Hoboken, NJ. It lasted seven years on the air and managed to make history in that time. It’s strong stance on equal rights for those currently and formerly incarcerated, its ban from the U.S. Armed Forces Radio, the blatant prejudice against all things non-Caucasian, and the sponsorship that had little disregard for the common consumer’s health and safety are all considered traits that no show today could endure after several minutes on the air.
Now, after all this time, The Jim Panzee and Friends Funtime Radio Hour has been brought back to the American consciousness with a new chronicling the history of the show and just what made it strike both loving sentimentality and disgust from the general public.
