Depths

This was probably the first "ink" painting I did. I actually used watered down black acrylic, and as you can see at one point I used so much that the paper started to tear. This is not by any stretch my best work, but I reminds me of how I started out. This along with the "eye" are the pieces I hold above all the others.

nice...

i love how u did this, the trees start out dark, then go it2 the sunlight. the off white color looks like it could be fog, like the sun just rose. I LUV IT!!!

yay!

Smooth!

Of your non-abstract, this one is by far your best. As said before, the contrast is very subtle, almost making the whole work like a single gradient. This helps flow greatly, with your eyes going up from the dark, up the divider, (which looks like a tower, nice focal point, btw) and into the sunlight. The objects are unclear, but i assume they are trees. However, this works greatly into the work, as the diagonal brush gives all the elements a...feeling. This one is so different because it is not abstract. It is not a landscape. It is whole. And it is beautiful.

Go...uh...eat a cake or something. You deserve it. Good day to you, sir. 5/5

are you an artist? :P

your critique is awesome, and I have no idea why people think it's useless.

Beautiful contrast of light and dark

This is a really beautiful environment. It is appropriately named "Depths" with a deep forest receding into light. The movement of light and smudges in diagonal strokes helps the misty sunbeam effect. The foreground is well-defined as dark brush and trunks while the background is contrasted with light and tall trees. Very well done.

CptBeefcake responds:

I definitely agree with you. At first when I was using the water to drag the paint along the surface I didn't like the intermediary grays which were starting to come, but now I look at it and the soft contrast really gives a feel of the a transition between the light foreground and the washed out background
