*intended to be viewed at 100% scale*

In the last year or so I've been really interested in digital painting that's as natural as possible. It's not traditional pixel art, granted, but I see where pixel art started, as the native resolution of the screens it's displayed on, to be as close as we've gotten so far. This is an attempt at the modern version of that.

I see this kind of painting as really exciting because it uses some of the best elements of the computer and digital art. It's both has perfectly even color and is crisp, but still retains a (uniquely digital) texture. It's easy to work with and undo stuff, but when viewed at 100% still has that solid quality of physical work. It (I think) invites you to get closer and step back and appreciate it more when your screen at one size is the intended viewing experience.
It's also kind of riding that cusp of nostalgia for pixels in general. With 4K and Retina, seeing pixels is kind of outdated, which I find exciting because now (like pixel art) they can be used with intent behind them.

But anyway, just some thoughts on medium and texture and stuff I've been interested in recently.

Happy Pixel Day!
