Hm... As for the meaning, it's probably not what you thought, but here goes. The general gist is that many LGBT people are forced to hide their true natures by giving into the heavy societal standards that dictate what a "man" or "woman" is. The two items she holds are representative of living true to oneself but oppressed (thorny rose) and living behind a mask (stone cherub).
Have fun figuring out the meaning of other little things here! Of course, that meaning is my personal one. Everyone is entitled to his own interpretation.
