Reviews for "AIM - Ichor Valley"

Ooh, gives me chills, really creepy and interesting music and story! I can see how it relates to the art it was inspired by. I liked how you used different scary sounds and effects to create tension. I also liked the panning you did for the vocals, it was really interesting to have a soundscape that sounded all around me from all directions! Good job, I really enjoyed it! :)

Thanks, looking at that picture I fell in love with it. As i'm talking courses on Unity3d I look forward to bringing it to life in the future!

Official AIM Review!

Nice work crafting a desolate sounding 'scape. Reminds me of some of the more unsettling Dark Souls tracks, particularly of a scaly/scaleless nature. Texture at 1:15 is especially eargasmic. Would have been nice to have some lyrics to understand what is being said, and if it relates to our dragon story at all, or if you simply chose those phonemes because they sounded appropriate.

I appreciate the panning play after from the perspective that you're trying to draw out those choir lines without them getting stale. May have been panned a little too hard though. Those basses sound fantastic though. I'm actually curious as to your library/VST, as I have a few vocal Kontakt libraries.

I agree with TL that this piece feels somewhat incomplete, neither progressing, nor regressing. I will say, fantastic use of horns and atonal elements. Overall, kept my attention right on the razor edge. Though I probably ought to get my head checked. I found it (and all those queasy string textures) soothing, hahahaha.

Thanks for turning out to this year's competition!

I like the ominous beginning and the sound design. The textures are somewhat indistinct, with few discernable notes besides the creepy violins in the first minute. There’s little in the way of progression besides a few swells until 1:15, in fact. I really like the vocals, even if they sound a tad robotic in their low register (probably because of the sample, I’m guessing). You certainly nailed the mood and atmosphere. This piece has a lot of suspense, but at some point I wanted to see that suspense released. The song doesn’t quite feel structurally complete otherwise. Similarly, the ending feels a bit sudden. It’s neither a dramatic flourish nor a gradual taming of the Wyverns. Instead, it’s quite ambiguous. Overall, though, this piece is truly captivating. Engrossing mood, haunting vocals, and easily vivid scenery. Piece really puts an image in my head. That’s a good sign. Keep up the good work, SmokeAvery!
