Reviews for "Dusty's Castle Remake Part 1"

i am excited to see this, though i will not hold my breath too much on it. i was kind of expecting it to be 3d. would make it a bit cooler, and make it stand out as a remake....also do you even have permission to do this? really hope so.

I'm not sure why you would remake it though. I appreciate the effort but I'm going to agree with how this is a downgrade so far (not taking the incomplete places into account).

2D animation in Unity isn't that different from Flash once you have the assets made. It can be a bit of a learning curve, but vector animation basically works like Flash's motion tweens. Just make sure that every body part is a child to the player.

Parts like the hands might be children of the forearms which are children of the upper arms. Setting up a hierarchy like that helps keep things moving together logically.

As for the sprites for each part, go into the sprite editor and place the pivot point at the connection to the part's parent. The head sprites should have pivots on the neck, the upper arms at the shoulders, etc.

Pixel animations pretty much have to be made outside unity and imported in sequence, but it looks like you're using vector so the pixel concerns shouldn't come into play.

I remember enjoying the original, so once this is polished it should be quite nice.

SuccubusGame responds:

Thanks. I'm learning a lot, but it's not quite that simple. Because of the ability to colour-change the original Dusty, there are 2-3 layers of sprites for every body part, plus sprite swapping for the hands and a few other unusual tricks. It's a masterclass in Flash animation, but really hard work converting to Unity.

In the last week, though, I've managed to simplify the original sprites, rig a skeleton, give her a simple idle animation and even implement a colour selection screen for her hair and body. So there's hope yet!

I remember the original Dusty's Castle this is going to be good

looking forward to the future of this project
