Reviews for "You're a Dragon"

I'm a dragon?

Serviceable. The text all seems quite fine; gameplay is simply too lacking to remain engaging, even for an incremental-style game. Also, it's kind of odd to thank someone for enjoying your game enough to earn an ending medal, but then offer patronizing advice to not "waste [their] time" with a game they didn't enjoy.

Could be an interesting game if more effort was put in. You might be able to go longer before returning to a regular 9-5. Overall, mechanics are good; clicking is responsive and I appreciate the hold-to-use autoclick instead of an automated on/off switch. Writing is fine; it doesn't need a complex storyline, really, since that's not the draw of this kind of game in most cases anyway. Balance of resources was fairer than expected, which made the easy but dull task of holding the "Hunt Insects" or "Hunt Rodents" button less painful. But the Google Spreadsheets-level presentation leaves a lot to be desired. Lack of sound, additional tabs, and indeed anything beyond some progress bars makes it less engaging than it could be. Even something as simple as the graphics used on the game's Medals would be nice to see in the actual game itself. Maybe a little dragon sprite that grows as you progress, and relevant items/scenery appear around it over time(A bug, a bird, a city, etc.).

Sorry to write so much, but I thought I'd try to be constructive and give more in-depth feedback.

kygron responds:

Thanks for the feedback! The medals are emoji, but I guess I could use them in the game?

A good concept but the execution is just not that fun. Would love to see an expanded version because I do really like the concept!

kygron responds:

What would you consider "fun"?

>A knight attacked you and literally empties your entire meter that you've been generating with an auto clicker.
>You dump a whole meter into defenses and they rebuild it damn near instantly with a population of 0.
Even cheating with an autoclicker this game is just unplayable. I dunno why hunting gives basically nothing, and enchanting teeth didn't do anything either. Something must have bugged out I don't think this is supposed to be like this at all.

kygron responds:

You're right, it's not. If you cheated to get ahead, you missed important things. The game is not meant to be played with an autoclicker. It GIVES you an autoclicker where you need it (hold down square-cornered buttons). I know my games aren't great, so I don't mind bad reviews, but "1 star - can't cheat to win" doesn't seem fair to me, does it to you?

Try playing again, but this time, hunt birds and enchant their claws. And read the first line in the description for how to end the game early if you're not being creative about how you destroy cities.

Some of the achievements/challenges have really unclear conditions - like "homebody" - it's literally impossible to say in the nest the whole game, and during the early part of the game, it's unclear whether hunting counts as leaving the nest or not (it certainly seems like it *should* count as leaving the nest, because the rodents presumably aren't crawling into your mouth, but it's also impossible to proceed (or seems impossible) without hunting. And, of course, there's no indication of how long you have to stay in your nest to get the achievement.

But that's just one example. I think all of the challenges need further clarification. (or at least the action buttons need some of kind of explanation of their costs and conditions) .

I'm also not a fan of partially hiding the underlying numbers - you need to dig your save to a certain depth and it shows you the depth number, but doesn't tell you how much you dig each click for example. It might be better to *completely* hide the numbers, not listing your goal numbers on the right maybe?

What do enchanted teeth and talons even do? I made a bunch of them (100 each), but I have no idea why or what effect they had on the game (if any)

Early game: what does destruction even represent? why does crawling reduce it? do I want to reduce it?

kygron responds:

The intention for "leave the nest" was more like "choose a new campsite". But I see how that could be misinterpreted. Actually, most of your questions would be answered by progressing further in the game, or playing through once to know how it all works. I'm still grappling with how much people are willing to explore before they start wanting answers. If you can think of a game that left you to explore and you were happy to do so, please let me know?
