Reviews for "Ex4ce Beginnings"

Nice game with cute style art. Some few things you might consider...
- Good to have all controls with mouse, but perhaps not for the Big Lazor which is activated by double click. Once there are bullets all over the screen and I want to get rid of them by using this special, to double click make the ship unable to move for 0.3-0.5 second and that very sharp moment makes the ship vulnerable.
- The heart and special containers are easy to understand but what are those red and blue containers?
- Would be good to know where exactly the hitbox is.
- The main ship and the bots have pretty much the same color tone and being on the same layer. There were some few times that I get confused that the bot is ship, so I move the bot away and the ship got hit by bullet (perhaps this is just me?).

awesome!

the popups every time you buy an upgrade were excessiive.

the inability of the game to capture the cursor and avoid the deadness when mouse left the field was annoying.

the slow rate of acquisition of "research material" was an impediment to player empowerment which is key for a game like this.

re: author. you have no idea what i was talking about with regards to the popups.

cp99 responds:

Yeah Phaser3 didn't give me much of a choice with regards to mouse coordinates outside of the canvas area... kinda rude of them, hence I'm switching to Defold they might have it.
Also moving the mouse outside of the game might be interpreted as glitch instant teleports thus exploits... but yeah rude of me.

Popups are timed to appear every 5 minutes top, the first one is to give the player 1000 free stars... and then every 5 minute 1000 stars to aid the player... pretty rude of me I see. My bad I guess. Rude of me to ask for support ... I mean the game has pretty good reviews, put my sweat and tears into it, all devs do, known fact. So far the income is pennies but and I'm trying to survive in order to make more arcade era inspired games with a touch of modern and high performance... but yeha how rude of me to ask for support... free is free after all. Next monetzing model should be 3 lvls for free rest, purchase as an downaloadable or have some sort of unlockable content, since support is ... well no-one cares about support and asking them is rude of me. I'm sure there's tones of other better content out there. At least they can afford artists of find collaborations I can't, I'm not as good as them.
GL HF tho

fun, the mouse control was a little laggy, but playable, also, the music is the same as Mozzoloh, right ?

cp99 responds:

Yes your ship is kinda slow at first and you're meant to upgrade the ship's speed to a "follows the mouse". Also the blue powerup you can pick in the game, increass your speed by 1 level for about 25s. If you pick more they stack the time not the level. Same for the bullets powerup it increases your gun level temporarely and the time stacks. The game actually has an unlockabl main gun and speed upgrade levels that are unlockable when you have MAX on speed or main gun. With the main gun being a higher DPS shift than any upgrade level can give. So yeah, I just said it :), main gun is the sweetest upgrade, never rush into buying lives unless you have all your fire power maxed. What's the point of lasting long but being unable to squish squash everything in your path. So yeah main fun, bots num and bots stats and bombs are the damage dealers, rockets help with clearing out bullets have some decent damage, but they're half / half more defense oriented. Even saw a player that recorded his play not being aware of the 2x click to use the bombs ... the video is 1 hrs long ... oh well, maybe reading stuff in a game could actually save one's time! xD

The muzic is credited it's a Japanese composer named youfulca, so the tracks might sound similar. His crisp WAV full quality tracks are outwordly, lots of battle themes to listen to, and freebees to include in your work. Not sure if the other game used the same artist but it's def not out of the realm of possibility.

Awesome game! Tight controls, fun and simple upgrade system, frantic and crazy action, and fun music!

I could not beat the last boss, in part because the ship locks up when the mouse hits the edge which hurts a lot for avoiding that many bullets.

Overall a very fun shooter!
