Reviews for "Rescue in Faraway Fields"

Why is there no ROM of this? It feels like a NES game.... Even better, why is there no download ?!

gatod responds:

Wish I was that good! Coding for old platforms like that is outside of my skills. Didn't know if going for as much fidelity as reasonable would pay off, but I think the resulting game has its charm... The fact that is so short helps a lot! Thank you for playing :)

I love the style and music!
Level 9-10 music was especially good in my opinion.

Gameplay wise, I initially thought the character was too slow, but I got use to it and I believe he is the correct speed for this game.
-The enemies were great! I really love the boulder guy on Level 7 (I believe that was the level at least). I wish there were more levels so that he could be utilized more.
-I'm glad that you don't kill the forest creatures but rather knock them unconscious.
- The level design is great, especially for the later levels.

PS: Level 12, even on normal, was ridiculous. For some reason I played this game again on hard mode anyway, lol.

gatod responds:

Haha thank you for the feedback! The prompt was "a character that is a nightmare to control with the worst weapon ever" and to somehow make it work. I'm glad to read it did!
I tried making some of the levels unique in some form... I fear it might just become a lousy Donkey Kong clone if I do re-use the bear though!
I try to make violence as comical and non-threatening as possible if I'm aiming for kids & adults; I'm on Satoshi Tajiri's side on that matter. I'm still looking for a good, short word that can replace "death" in video game lexicon... I feel like nobody cares about these things hahaha but I think they're somewhat important if you make games, to think about these things at least once.

I'm really, really sorry about Level 12. It's not that much the part with the barrels that you have to memorize, it's the first part with the moving platforms that makes missing a chance totally painful... I would be lying if I told you I kinda enjoy a sadistic final level that pushes the control scheme to the limits of what's fun. Thank you for playing! :)

this is like an arcade game
