So my theory is Rose has an abusive boyfriend, and she's trying to cut Basil out of her life because she doesn't feel worthy of love and she doesn't want Basil to get involved. I think I noticed in the dinner scene as she was passing by the camera that she cuts her wrists, which makes me think she's depressed, and her doing drugs also makes me think she's trying to numb herself. The guy being everpresent and subtly antagonistic also makes me think he's trying to control her as part of his abuse.
All in all, I really liked this, I just wish it ended on a less somber note, like Basil's friend hugging him to comfort him or something.
Reminds me of the way Better Call Saul is shot. The cinematography is great!
Who else thought that the dude was a stoner.
