Reviews for "Candy's Dream Egg"

The keyboard controls on this game are a bit annoying, but what really undermines this game is the mechanics. I'm not really fond of puzzle games where I'm stuck on this level just because none of my actions can fit in the space that's around me.

I LOVE how it has gamepad controlls

Congratulations! The game looks beautiful and has a strong idea/mechanic behind it, which is all very impressive under the jam time constraints. That said, I do think the level design is an area where there's room for growth. In this version, the levels are broadly grouped by the mechanics or obstacles they introduce, but there's not much of a difficulty curve within each group. The upshot is that the levels start to feel slightly undifferentiated. Equally, there are a few too many later levels where it's easy to arrive at an unintended solution by dropping your egg at the beginning, navigating the level solo and then just summoning the egg (often leaving parts of the level unused).

It might be worth trying to reduce each level down to a concept you want the player to learn, or a series of concepts you want them to link together, and then look at how these ideas flow together. ie You might have a sequence of three levels where the concepts are 1. Sometimes you must throw your egg forward, (BUT) 2. You can't throw your egg on to spikes, (THEREFORE) 3. Sometimes the only way to move forwards is to throw your egg backwards. Often a player's perception of the rhythm and range of your game is directly related to the sensation of those connecting words. Just like in the written word, you want to avoid the feeling of AND, AND, AND, where level follows level until a new mechanic is introduced.

It was a fun game, for what it was. I feel like there was far too much unexplored potential really. The game isn't very hard and it has so many mechanics that could be explored in interesting ways. Maybe make an update or sequel?

Wonderful jam game, I'd love to see it turned into a larger project!

I had one hilarious bug, after the boss fight I went into the next room and the cutscene didn't trigger. I tried to walk around, then just tossed the egg into the sky. At first I assumed it'd hatch in the air and fly back as a dragon or angle or something, then nothing happened. I sat and whistled for a bit to call the egg, still nothing. Eventually I pressed R and it solved itself, but still it was a fun bug.
